Seeing the idea from Sneldog on the Vosges and fact that I´m bored to tears already on Boxing Day, I thought about putting together a route for Eastern France, Germany for 2025.
Routes are below.
Start for me is always Rotterdam or The Hague so ignore that part if you decide to come from the Channel Tunnel or the Ferry.
There are 5 overnight stays and 6 days riding. I haven't put together firm dates yet but my guess some time in July or later in the year. Earlier is also an option.

I am interested in riding this one but not alone. My idea would be a small group max 4 together. If interested drop me a DM and we can discuss ideas.

Start date Monday 21 July

I did a great ride with Richard (TimeandTide) this year and we had a lot of fun just the 2 of us as we share similar ideas on riding and also stops, food etc. I do tend to plan quite far in advance simply because I want the rooms at the places I chose and a lot gets booked up pretty quickly as many of the places have limited numbers of rooms.

Day 1 - Rotterdam to Vienne le Chateau. 400km. Basically south thruogh Belgium into Northern France. I hate riding in Belgium as the roads tend to be shite except in the Ardennes. Overnight stay is the Hotel Le Tulipier. . Great hotel in beautiful grounds. Has a swimming pool as well and the food is pretty good having the ´´bleu´´ rating of Logis.

Day 2 - Vienne le Chateau to Quarre les Tombes. 260km. A lovely ride southwards along le Route de Champagne through the Champagne fields and small villages. Then delving into the Northern part of Le Morvan. Stop over is Hotel le Morvan. Small hotel with airconditioned rooms and a fabulous restaurant. Seeing as this is a shorter day there´s time for a more relaxed lunch at one of the many village brasseries along the route.

Day 3 - Quarre les Tombes to Altkirch. 340km. The longest ride of the tour. Heading eastwards towards the German border but staying in France. Basically to the southern edge of the Vosges. Overnight stay is at the Hotel Auberge Sundgovienne. Looks pretty good and has the blue rating for both lodgings and restaurant.

Day 4 - Altkirch to Wissembourg. 292km. Basically heading due north through both southern and northern Vosges. A lot of twisties along the way crossing the ski areas of the Vosges. Overnight stop is right on the German Border at Wissembourg at the Hotel Moulin de la Walk.

Day 5 - Wissembourg to Korperich. 266km. Heading over the border into Germany and then due north into the Eifel. Passing through the Mosel area and then west past Bitburg to the Luxemburg border at an old favourite of mine the Hotel Im Goldener Grund. Lovely quiet place, half decent food and pretty reasonable rates. Not for those that want a wild night life....

Day 6 - Koerpeich back to Eindhoven. 258km. Last day and then people can go their own way home.

Good for you. I do like to see "Open Invites" on this forum. It shows real kind of family and partnerships in riding if that makes sense. I have a busy 2025 all planned out so not for me but I hope you get some takers and we shall all want to see the ride report posted on here ! (y)

Thanks to whoever made the change to my original thread but i can't see who did. Seems to be an annonymous moderator…..

‘‘Twas I.

I usually add a note in blue when I do it, but I forgot. Now done.

Indeed so.

I know from running my own ‘Wapping’s Wanders’ that they take time and effort to create, so well done Grant.

For anyone coming across from the ‘northern counties’ the North Sea crossings would make sense. Likewise, for some of the eastern most counties, the Harwich / Hook crossing might well make sense, too.

For those in London / the immediate south-east, the Folkestone / Dover / Calais crossings, might work best to Vienne le Chateau and returning from Koerpeich, both of which are an easy’ish day’s ride away from the Calais coast.

But, talk to Grant to see what suits him best.

PS The various days’ routes look good.

Indeed happy to meet at first stop Vienne le Chateau or have anyone join already from Rotterdam. Rotterdam is very close for anyone using the P&O Ferry from Hull or the Harwich to Hook of Holland route.
If joining in Rotterdam we will take the motorway through Belgium which is not very pleasant and as much as I hate motorways there is a short stretch about 100 km from south Belgium into France which to me is the best motorway I have ever ridden. Almost no traffic, excellent road, no peage and great sweeping road thruogh the Hills of the Ardennes.

I have 1 other taker so far.

The dates will be Day 1 - Rotterdam to Vienne le Chateau on Monday 21st July.

One slight change and that is the hotel in Quaree les Tombes. Typical France but they are closed Monday and Tuesdays so I have gone for this place and adjusted the routes accordingly

I have edited your post and have edited a bit more of the thread.

I like Quarré les Tombes. Though it’s a small village, it has a bit of everything.

A decent bar, a post office, a small Co-Op type mini supermarket thing, a bank ATM, chemist and a 24 hour self-service petrol pump.

A good hotel, besides the one Grant suggested is the du Nord, right on the town square, along with its larger sister hotel, a taxi ride from the village, out on its own, the Auberge de l’Atre.

The hotel in the village is run by a very nice French lady (who speaks very little English), the other hotel by her father. The du Nord has a sort of ‘set menu’ for eating, the sister is more a la carte, if you get my drift. That said, neither hotel would suit the “Where’s me chips, mate” brigade….

Indeed. Unfortunately as I suspected and as is always the case, I have had to make some changes to the route and lodgings for the simple reason that some are already fully booked, or are not open for dinner as is the case of Le Morvan you mentioned above. However we do have 2 people now signed up and bookings made. Myself and Karlp.
Just as info the new hotels that ARE available will be as follows:

day 1 - Monday 21st July - Le Tulipier with indoor pool (y) (y)
day 2 - Tuesday 22nd July - Au Vieux Morvan
day 3 - Wednesday 23rd July - Le Residence with outdoor pool (y)(y)
day 4 - Thursday 24th July - Au Moulin de la Walk
day 5 - Friday 25th July - Hotel Fronhof serves a great schnitzel!!

I will revise the routes later

...........I´ll get my coat........

Any other takers? Might be worth getting in with the lodgings if interested as places seem to be filling up already.

Run this over the August Bank hols weekend I would be there ...

August is peak EURO holiday season as is July to a degree, but some kids are still in school. Good luck finding digs for a gang of hairy 4-5 biker mates, not least you’ll be paying a decent premium for said digs too, compared to early or late seasons like mid September onwards.
I am certain that Grant has chosen July for a very good reason over August.
