Seeing the idea from Sneldog on the Vosges and fact that I´m bored to tears already on Boxing Day, I thought about putting together a route for Eastern France, Germany for 2025.
Routes are below.
Start for me is always Rotterdam or The Hague so ignore that part if you decide to come from the Channel Tunnel or the Ferry.
There are 5 overnight stays and 6 days riding. I haven't put together firm dates yet but my guess some time in July or later in the year. Earlier is also an option.
I am interested in riding this one but not alone. My idea would be a small group max 4 together. If interested drop me a DM and we can discuss ideas.
Start date Monday 21 July
I did a great ride with Richard (TimeandTide) this year and we had a lot of fun just the 2 of us as we share similar ideas on riding and also stops, food etc. I do tend to plan quite far in advance simply because I want the rooms at the places I chose and a lot gets booked up pretty quickly as many of the places have limited numbers of rooms.
Day 1 - Rotterdam to Vienne le Chateau. 400km. Basically south thruogh Belgium into Northern France. I hate riding in Belgium as the roads tend to be shite except in the Ardennes. Overnight stay is the Hotel Le Tulipier. . Great hotel in beautiful grounds. Has a swimming pool as well and the food is pretty good having the ´´bleu´´ rating of Logis.
Day 2 - Vienne le Chateau to Quarre les Tombes. 260km. A lovely ride southwards along le Route de Champagne through the Champagne fields and small villages. Then delving into the Northern part of Le Morvan. Stop over is Hotel le Morvan. Small hotel with airconditioned rooms and a fabulous restaurant. Seeing as this is a shorter day there´s time for a more relaxed lunch at one of the many village brasseries along the route.
Day 3 - Quarre les Tombes to Altkirch. 340km. The longest ride of the tour. Heading eastwards towards the German border but staying in France. Basically to the southern edge of the Vosges. Overnight stay is at the Hotel Auberge Sundgovienne. Looks pretty good and has the blue rating for both lodgings and restaurant.
Day 4 - Altkirch to Wissembourg. 292km. Basically heading due north through both southern and northern Vosges. A lot of twisties along the way crossing the ski areas of the Vosges. Overnight stop is right on the German Border at Wissembourg at the Hotel Moulin de la Walk.
Day 5 - Wissembourg to Korperich. 266km. Heading over the border into Germany and then due north into the Eifel. Passing through the Mosel area and then west past Bitburg to the Luxemburg border at an old favourite of mine the Hotel Im Goldener Grund. Lovely quiet place, half decent food and pretty reasonable rates. Not for those that want a wild night life....
Day 6 - Koerpeich back to Eindhoven. 258km. Last day and then people can go their own way home.
