GPX - Figure of 8 in Spain

Annoyingly, the grand looking Parador de Cuenca is currently closed and will not reopen until 1 Aug 2025
The Parador as pictured in the Siguenza castle above now booked for 1 night on the way to Salamanca. Half board.

Also booked 1 night in Santa Domingo de Silos at the eponymous hotel recommended in Doc's thread on the way back to Santander. Close enough to Soria on the route in my first post. Looks a nice place to have a stroll about before dinner.
The Benedictine monestry is open to the public for the evening service which is sung in Gregorian chants

Day 4 & 5

Parador Limpias to Pamplona Hotel Yoldi for 2 nights. Relatively short route to give me the afternoon to explore Pamplona. The hotel has its own private garage.

Daytrip into Pyrenees from Ride https://www.ride.co.uk/routes-content/the-pyrenees
Route 29 see website for GPX
The route includes the D19 & D18, one of the finest routes in the Pyrenees through the the Iraty region from Larrau to St Jean de Pied de Port. I did this in 2022 after a recommendation from @Simon_100 with the Col de Larrau. The Ride route uses two other Cols to leave and enter Spain, both new to me.

Both great routes Wessie, the western one, Coll d'Aspes if I remember right, is hardly more than a lane but very rideable and no f***ing pilgrims clogging the verges up from St Joan ... :)

day 9
Salamanca to Ciudad Real via N502 over Sierra de Gredos & Puerto de Pico. A favourite I am looking forward to riding again. As you go over the Puerto you can see 3 different roads. The original Roman road, the narrow 20th century road clinging to the cliffs and the modern, swoopy road with impressive viaducts and grippy surface

day 10 & 11
Ciudad Real to Hotel Cordoba Centro

The waypoint in the route is for the hotel's parking, which is shared with the shopping centre

This goes down through the Andujar Natural Park through a nice looking gorge

Day 11 on foot exploring the city

I just watched the video on the website for the car park. Just around the corner from the barrier, next to the bikes pictured, is the 24h security office. Good for keeping an eye on my bike, not so good for sneaking past those barriers to avoid paying!

day 12
Cordoba to Parador de Alarcon via Cazorla Nature Park. The Cazorla loop only adds about 60 miles but doubles the time for the route! The Garmin really did not want to go alongside the Tranco reservoir and had to be forced with more waypoints than the Google route. The Streetview car went through there last summer and the road looks narrow but in good condition. I'll be across there on a Monday in early June so should not have too many tourists that @Simon_100 warns about.

Re the first one - if time allows I like the following route into Pamplona. They are both lovely roads - https://maps.app.goo.gl/UdVBMU5NpUnAvWd1A

The 2nd one is also a great route but if you get a chance try and ride the following which incorporates the fantastic Navascues to Burgui road. The road to Lumbier is also a very pleasant introduction. - https://maps.app.goo.gl/FTXxvtwBrveSg1jB9

Good luck

thanks, it would be an easy detour to go via the NA718/NA700. It will be a case of the time I get level with the A1 that determines which route I follow from Altsasu

Thank you for making the effort to share it all. Thank you to all those who made good suggestions, too.

First day, well afternoon as arriving in Santander lunchtime so probably not off the boat until after 2pm

I have had the Mirador Fuente El Chivo (Goat Fountain) at 1994m on my to do list for a long time and if the weather is okay, it will be a good way to extend the route for an hour as it is only 42km round trip from the hotel.

@Wapping - let me know if you can download this GPX file from Onedrive. It was created directly onto my Zumo 390 and exported via USB file transfer. I do this as I know the route will work on my device and is easy to edit in the field as a) I know the device well and b) no 3rd party foibles to fuck it up.
Went up there 2023....they have done a really good smooth road up to the ski resort. CA-183
Then the more cattle strewn CA-916
Erie place as all shut down and very little traffic

Parador in Alarcon is lovely - at least, the suite we stayed in was! Private access to tower-top terrrace, stunning views and truly memorable. The town of Alarcon won't take you too long to explore though.

We've previously stayed in Cuenca, Siguenza and Soria Paradores (on your route). Soria was the only Parador we've stayed in that was a bit mediocre (out of 40+ we've stayed in).

I wanted to stay in Cuenca but it is being renovated so not open until August. @Doc will be one of the first to stay there after the refurb.

I am staying in Siguenza on the way to Salamanca.

Alarcon is only one night on the trek north so not worried about having too much to see locally. I have booked half board.

Soria - looked at that Parador but, yes, it is not a great location and looks like a 6th form college.
