Contrary to the tales of horror, relayed on these pages, I suffered no ills through having arrived at the Chunnel early.

The automated check-in offered me an earlier crossing than the one I’d booked, which I accepted gladly. No additional charge was lumped in my direction.

so what bike got the nod ? being early could indicate you were up early and not feeling lazy and moved the big beast out of the way . also could be you were lazy and took the faster bike to avoid being late and got there early ? hmmm

The same experience on the return leg France to UK this morning. Nobody about, the car park all but empty.

I was booked on the 10:45 train but the automated check-in offered me the 10:15 departure instead, which I accepted. I just missed being able to get onto the 09:45 train.

Chatting to a Dutch bikermate, who was booked onto the 11:45 train but arrived at the check-in at about 09:40, he was offered the 10:15 too. He too accepted the earlier train offered.

So the moral of the story is such, arrive earlier than needed and you’ll likely to be put on an earlier crossing. Arrive beyond the allocated check-in time, and be prepared to have your trousers round the ankles, and them/they/it going in dry!

In a few weeks time, I shall see how will my experience be…
