Gran Canaria

Not been to Gran Canaria , so we are heading down a week tomorrow ( Tuesday ) for a wee chill out hol for a week , then an internal flight to Tenerife North airport and over to Puerto De La Cruz , for a couple of further weeks .
Need a wee break .
I hired a bike for 4 days in the north of Tenerife Xmas week about 7 years ago. There are fantastic roads to ride there. The north west corner is great. As is one of the twistiest roads I've ever ridden on running parallel to the eastern south to North motorway. And the lava fields up to mount tiede are beautiful. Lovely place to ride.

I must admit Gran Canaria is one of the last places I’d go for a beach holiday . Naff concrete resorts huddled around a crap beach teaming with brits in buggies.

But venture inland and it’s a different world , with mountain passes, rain forests and canyons , dotted with sleepy villages for coffee or lunch .
I'd say that goes for most of Spain!

You're welcome to your opinion. But you're wrong, of course.
I guess you’ve never been to northern Spain . Some stunning unspoilt beaches in Asturias,Galicia and Cantabria.
Very few brits and no naff tourist tat that seems to spring up in places like the Costas to cater for incoming muppetry

I've been to northern Spain many times. Never been on the coast when it's warm and sunny though!

You are indeed fucking weird. Been going every year for about a decade and it’s hardly ever not sunny.

Each photo taken on a a different year and temperature always between 22-26 degs , hence many Spaniards (with a brain) decamp to northern Spain to avoid the heat of the south.

I don't think I said I've never been to a beach in Northern Spain. Not sure where you got that from...

I've shivered on the prom in San Sebastian, got soaked walking round Ribadeo, huddled down on the bikes in driving rain coming out of Bilbao and Santander, watched the rain teeming down in Limpias... I've also been on the most idyllic beach I've ever seen in Costa de Morte. To be fair, we had three days of perfect weather there.

Anyway, my original point in the thread was that Spain, like Gran Canaria, can seem like two distinct countries; the densely-hotelled beachfront holiday destination frequented by the bucket and spade brigade, and the inland bit which is very different. I was actually agreeing with Arsey's original point, but it seem she is spoilign for soem sort of fight. There are of course some lovely beaches in Spain, Atlantic and Mediterranean, just as there are lovely coastal towns in Gran Canaria. It's not all Maspalomas.
