I wanted to get some grease into my headstock bearings without stripping the front end out...
So this is how i went about it

Being a later 100GS it has the bars fitted to the front of the bike
These are held on with 2 allen bolts into the headstock tube on the frame

First off i made a adapter to screw into one of these holes

Then screw it into the top hole

You also need to block the hole up in the triple clamp tube

Then it's just a case of pumping grease in until it comes out the bearings :thumb2

It might sound a dumb question I know but it needs asking. I presume the headstock doesn't have access holes onto the frame? Others the entire frame would fill up with grease. My thoughts are of Mini rear swinging arms when greased. The grease would fill up the swinging arms and fail to reach the inboard bearings.

Whole frame is seperate tubing simply welded together :thumb2

Is this a one off item or can we buy one ??? I'd like to fitt one to my head stock before I complete the re-build??

I think it's a cracking good idea and if Garry intends to make anymore, I'd like to put my name down for one.:)

I could make some if there is enough interest..
I did my monolever in a simular way....
But the tube on the monolever has a hole through into the frame backbone so you have to push something up the frame and hold it there while you pump the grease in..
Also there are no holes in the monolever frame so i removed the steering lock and made a adpter to fill it through there...
Good thing is once you have filled the headstock for the first time ( takes quite abit of grease ) it's easy to grease the bearings from then on ( only takes a couple of pumps )
After i have greased the headstock i removed the adapter and refitted the original bolt

It sure as hell beats stripping the front end out to grease the bearings

Fantastic. Some mods are very useful. :thumb2
Just a thought for the early GS's would it be worth drilling and taping the headstock to fit a nippal:eek:

alimey4u2 Do you pressure wash your bike ride offroad wet roads salt covered roads etc?
With regards to greasing your bearings (all) a lot more than you think

None of the above but that explains it.....:beerjug:

Nice mod by the way....:thumb but wouldn't an angled nipple with a flex hose grease gun do the same ??
