As for those who think that the 1150 is in some way better, answer me this. Why, if it's so good, do people use aftermarket crash bars, panniers, bash plates? Is it perhaps because the OE for the 1150 isn't really up to the really rough stuff any more than the OE for the 1200?

Two reasons;

1. Many used these items to enhance the image.

2. The others use them to protect the bikes in more extreme conditions, (the 1200 wouldn't have reached the ferry) :P

Great bike, BUT......discuss

...BUT nothing. I love mine. It's been brilliant so far, it seems to be multi-talented, I like the way it looks, and I love the confidence it imparts when I'm astride it.

But I know that if anything should go wrong, then my BMW dealer will take care of it.

Good enough for me. Best £9,700 I ever spent.

Great bike....

This is my first BMW and I must say I am a bit concerned at some quallity/reliability issuess after only having Jap bikes before all of which were reliable. It may put me off owning a BMW (not just GS) in the long run but I love my GS and my wife doesn't want me to change it for anything other than another :thumb . Flawed genius is what it is, more flawed in some cases than others but at least the after sales seems good if a bit expensive :clap

I know BMW did a number of revisions to the 06 model GS, we've had lots of feed back from the 04 model owners, so how are the 06 models holding up?

Done about 5k on my 06 12GS, nothing gone wrong at all (the 04 one fell to bits, repeatedly, on less mileage, wouldn't start if left for 48 hours, etc etc etc)

The 06 has better mid range too.

they are all the same realy !

Well being honest my 1100's and a friends have had probs such as Gearboxes, Calipers leaking, Fuel gauges, Output seals, shaft bearings, ABS sensors, Fork seals, rear shocks, seat locks, corrosion, front and rear master cylinder seals, Heated grips, fuel pump, rear racks, top box mountings.

And he had so many probs with his first one BMW replaced it on their request.

oh I forgot to mention the gearbox mod/change to stop the casting failing at the mounting.

oh and the change from plastic to metal tanks

As an addition to the tale of woe, I've just booked it in to have the final drive hub changed again!!!! :spitfire

Go and buy a Ducati, then come back here and moan about reliability / warranty / resale values :D :D :D :D :D :D

I agree, 1200GS simply the best bike on the planet !! No other forum has so much input from riders and genuine enthusiasts (I don't include those who by a 1200 as their latest fad, only to sell it after a few miles :rob Of course these bikes are always garaged and never out in the rain..........oh and whatever you do don't scratch it :D All makes, all models have problems, just not as well documented.......................yes, my next bike will be a 1200GS :thumb :thumb
