Great escape 2016 Alps....

Great photos, thanks for sharing. Now I know what the Grimsel actually looks like, when I did it early this month it was pissing with rain, 7 degrees and almost zero visibility.

I had the same problem in August on the Timmelsjoch and the Grossglockner - wet and cloudy, couldn't see anything!
That means I'll have to go back to ride them both next year - what a bummer!!!!
I also stayed at your old place the night after crossing the Grossglockner and it rained all the next day but the Grossglockner was closed because of snow!
Your old place was great - best wifi of my three week tour!

When we bought the place in 2008 we put in WiFi, we were the only place with WiFi within 50Kms! Wifi is generally poor in Austria and Germany even now. Best we found was Romania where there was free WiFi almost everywhere.

I'm taking over a tour company for next summer so will be going back to the Grimsel etc more than once. Hopefully will get a least one dry day! As you found the Grossglockner can be closed at any time throughout the summer. Worth going back for though, try to do it early or late in the day when most of the mobile chicanes are not on the road.

I had stayed in Soelden overnight and did the Timmelsjoch at about 07:00. Headed to Vipiteno and then north to ride the Gerlos strasse to Zell an Zee and then the Grossglockner. I must have got there about mid afternoon and by then the rain and wind had kicked in again. It won't be a hardship to ride it again next year (hopefully in the dry and sun). [Dunkel beer in Soelden!]
All the best for your tour company adventure next summer - I like the sound of it!

Best rides over the Grossglockner have been late in the season. No traffic and often crystal clear air and blue skies, had lunch once at the Eidelwiesspitze (2700 odd metres up) sitting outside last weekend in October. I hope you catch some good weather next time you go. I will post details of my plans for next summer soon.

PS You do know the locals think Dunkel beer is for pregnant ladies!

That's a new one on me! Must tell my Swiss friend - he'll laugh at that one.
That's maybe why I had so much trouble finding it!
They sell "Unertl" in Soelden - very nice.

Looking forward to seeing your new plans.
