Hi Chaps,

Can anyone give me an indication on an easy green lane/ trail or track I can look at and maybe 'have a go'??

Central to Exeter and riding a 1200 GSA.

I'm thinking of getting into doing trails n stuff for something different to road riding and less traffic.

Don't want to go down the TRF route just yet.

If anyone is willing to share their knowledge and doesn't want to post it all over the forum could you PM me.

Cheers

OS map

Im not trying to be sarcastic (makes a change) but get a local OS map and learn to read it the first clue i will give you is green crosses in a line are BOATs e.g. unpaved roads.

Only trouble with that on a GSA is you won't know the conditions to you get there and a off when alone aint good  Im sure a local Tosser will take you on a ride out with some big bike friendly trails.

keep an eye on Off Road threads or maybe go to a ukGSer meet as most have GSA dooable off road ride outs :thumb

It might be worth coming along to this http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=284621
I would not recommend greenlaning on a GSA if you haven't been offroad before.

Yes I've been keeping an eye on this thread but it looked a little bit 'involved' and not sure I'm ready for that yet. I've been up on the local common with a mate but won't do it too much as suspect a bollocking would be in order.

I'll look into the OS maps, dunno why didnt think of that.

Thanks for advice so far...

Come along mate, some of the trails will be a bit more testing than others however the plan is to stop before each one so that everyone who doesn't fancy it knows how to get to the other end on the road. Some of the ones I have looked at are perfectly ok for a GSA and its sure to be a laugh. I'm sure by the end of the day you might be suprising yourself.

I'm in the same position as you. Riding an R850GS, but itching to take it on some easy trails where the chances of seriously binning it are reduced. No offroad experience, except 25 years if mountain biking! I've found LOADs of legit lanes around the East Devon area, but not explored any of them as I'm reluctant to head out to them on my own! Might head out on the mountain bike and see what they're actually like...

Exmoor explorer looks a bit challenging, but if the consensus is there are big-trailie friendly routes then I may give it a go.

If you need someone to go with you I am keen BUT I have only done a limited amount of off roading on an F800Gs and the BMW off road level one course. I am on a KTM Adventure. I am a TRF member and one benefit is access to their StaNav-ready lane maps. I used this to go grew laning alone on my old F800GS ... And learned why it's a good idea to follow the directional arrows and read the trail descriptions that the TRF provide. I really couldn't be bothered to walk the trails first which led to interesting moments - I found that having the ability to pick up your bike and walk it through some stages essential.

I'd like to do a bit o' green laning in the area, nothing too special (F800GS with Anakee 2s) , give me a shout if you're heading out :-)

Sounds like we need to arrange an 'Exeter newbie greenlaners on bikes a bit big for the job' outing. I'm also a TRF member but haven't hooked up with them yet, although I do have access to the online lanes listings.

Sounds good that...especially as we get lighter evenings next week??

Should we make a list??.... I'll start....-

Tazo :-)

Ben, yours tyre will be useless off road TRUST me. The first bit of mud/grass or rock then you will lose the front end and be picking it up more then riding it.

What about a set of Heidenau K60's on an R850GS? Manly enough for the conditions, assuming I kept to more tracks than muddy trails.

hi - I just got myself a r1150gs adventure and would be interested in a bit of newbie green laning if something was being arranged, im in okehampton and done a bit a few years ago on a 450 yamaha so dont know if the 1150 might be a bit to much of a handfull?

Bit of a thread hijack, but I don't suppose it's your good self that I pass some mornings on the A30, is it?....On your way to Exeter?

I used to see a red (I think) GS passing about the same time, but I haven't seen him (or her) lately...:(
