A few mates and I are thinking of going green laning in Thetford and Norfolk.

I am wondering if anyone out there knows how much of the Peddars Way is doable and legal.

Other than the Kings Forest , are there any other areas/tracks worth exploring?

TIA

Pedders way is a footpath I think and so is out of bounds unless anyone else knows any different.

Try pm'ing Noddy, Polarbear or Boxertools. They're the Norfolkian off-road guru's :bow

green lanes

I would be keen to join you if you hear more about access on the Peddars way. I've walked bits of it (through the night!?) I am looking to get off the roads a bit and try something different. Let me know if you hear more and if you are going!

Will let you know. Although feedback so far is not promising for Peddars Way.

Anyhow whereabouts are you ?

Peddars way

I've just spoken to someone who used to do a lot of it. He says it is rapidly being given strictly footpath status now. still, he said you can get on it at East Wretham, 6 miles out of thetford towards Norwich on A11 just where it goes under the rail bridge. There is a track to a house which goes onto the path/bridleway.

I'm up the road a bit in Norwich. There is a BMW club off road weekend in Hertfordshire mid july (13th-15th) which I plan to go to as a first foray into going off road in the UK at least. Did plenty of gravel tracks fully laden in Africa some years ago on a big adveture but everything has been tame roads since. I've got a bumble bee paralever 100- great bike.

Treeman & I often do some of Peddars way between North Pickenham and Castle acre, take in some lanes around Castle Acre and then the Fords:thumb2

Owain, see the thread in the off road section about the Beeston Pit weekend.
We occasionally rent the pit for a day but this time we have it for a weekend, 16th 17th June.
We have some people coming who will stay overnight.

Mike.

Hi Owain

Got any more details on the Hertfordshire off-road weekend in July, sounds interesting?

No details except the date as I mentioned. It is run by the Midland section of the BMW club I think. I am awaiting details from them. I'll find out this weekend.

Can't find anything about the Beeston Pit weekend in the Off road section.Any further guidance? It sounds good (and possibly local?)

Owain, I have bumped the thread, don't know how to add a link.(you could search Beeston Pit)
Very local.
By the way, some of us are planing a pub meet at the Jennyns Arms by the river at Denver (nr Downham Market) on the 17th of May.

Steve,
I won't be able to make the pub meet but hope to be at the Beeston Pitt weekend. Sounds good.

Green Laning

Hi Guys,

I don't know if this will help but the year before last I did a day with CJ BAlls Norfolk adventure day they take you around the area you are talking about it was £99 for the day they supplied the bike Honda Transalp all you have to do is turn up and ride + petrol. It was a good day unfortunatly my memory is shot so finding the green lanes would be impossible.
It was my first off road experience :D :D :thumb I just haven't done any more since:tears now I have my GS i should do some more:hide
