Some great adventure riding down here but - I did drop the 1150GS a few weeks back on a local dirt road. Went sideways for a while so was going fairly slow by he time we layed down - damage to the bike was minimal but I need a clutch master cylinder and left side switchblock to get going again. Worse news on the right wrist which got tangled between the front brake lever and plastic shrouds - broken and dislocated....ouch.

Any UK ideas on new or second hand parts suppliers.....??

Any help appreciated

Always had good service from the guys in the banner headings Motorworks etc

I can put in another good word for Motorworks, they've been good when I've had stuff sent down to me in Otago. And the strong $ is kind.

You down here on the mainland, or up in the winterless north?

Oi ahutcheon there is also a large part of NZ between the Mainland and the Winterless North:D

Yeh, but it's all just Bulls and the like isn't it? Even the original Palmerston is down here...erm, if I'm citing the Ranfurly turnoff I've probably just shot my own foot?

Thanks for replies

Hi JGBH. Yep I will add my support for Motor Works sending out to NZ but have you seen the bloke on Trademe who is parting his R1150GS.

Sorry to read about your wrist. Hope ACC are looking after you.

I'll chase up the TradeMe lead first and then try Motorworks - much appreciated.

ACC have been good to me, with surgery, physio and loss of income I have certainly burned through the levies I've paid over the years so no complaints.

Is ACC like a road tax fund paid annually ? Seems good value based on what you said above. http://www.acc.co.nz/for-individuals/motorcyclists/index.htm#P4_258

There's an ACC levy included in annual vehicle registration (the $30 motorcycle safety thing is only part of it, I think it runs around $400 per year on a bike over 600cc). Then there's an ACC levy on every litre of petrol (not sure how much, but it all adds to the pain). And I pay an ACC levy on the registration for the car, and for the ute. No levy on diesel, hence the levy on the diesel ute is higher. And there's an ACC levy on my pay (a bit like NI contributions, I suppose).

It's actually a pretty good no-fault universal injury insurance/compensation scheme. But it's not cheap. It does mean that vehicle insurance is limited to property damage, so that should be cheaper (but it isn't cheap - small market?).

That's a matter of opinion ... :augie

However ...

JGBH and ahebron, howdy from a pakeha tosser now residing in the Winterless North,

Anyway, after being away from the fold for quite a while I've quite literally stumbled on this thread.

JGBH I don't know if you've been in touch with the bloke on Trademe, but I'd definitely be interested in the brake m/c, and possibly part of the wiring loom if you wanted to split things.

Funny how people from the north in New Zealand are tossers while its from the south in the UK:D

Adrian
Yeah I know what you mean, but I'm not actually *from* the north of NZ, originally I'm from the north east of England (sort of).

On that basis I'm using the Tosser designation in the way that I'd use the term Inmate on ADV ... ;)

However, yes, with the half marathon today things are starting to gear up for the annual invasion of jaffa tossers ... :D

Whereas down here in Otago I'm a wanker (if the sheep run too fast).

Not that I'm from here: arrived via Scotland, Tyneside and Yorkshire.

Its ok I know what the Tosser designation is in regard to our bikes and I proudly call myself one.
Funnily enough I too am originally from the North East of England.
Bit of a theme going on here.

Certainly seems that way ... :D

Meanwhile, back on topic, JGBH have you tried to contact the guy out at Maraetai, 'cos I see the bars were re-listed and sold very quickly?
