More of a rant than anything - great bike but finish is appalling for the money.

Bike is an 06, well cared for, 8000 miles, lives in a car port, regularly cleaned.

My front engine cases were all white and fury, BMW wanted £280 for the part plus 2 hours to change it, ... grr, in the end my local dealer took it off, blasted it, sprayed it and put it back, although it now looks great this task is to be avoided at home, they had a very tricky time putting it all back with seals etc in limited space. I know there are how to's on this subject. Had stainless bolts fitted.

Exhaust header bolts rusted on .. Garage had great difficulty in getting them off, now replaced and cop slipped, various bolts elsewhere on cylinder head.

The bolts are simply poor quality I think, some corrode some do not,

Need to get busy with the ACF50 from now on, - I presume this corrosion is the normal situation?. Was 06 a bad model year ?.

this not just down to bmw,s ,had suzukis with rotten front exhaust pipes,i had hondas with front forks showing strong sighns of decay, get used to it mate ,i think its called motocycling in england, they all fall to bits eventually.:thumb

Shock horror.......corrosion of metal parts on a 6 year old bike!
Who knew ?

;)

Nope ..... needed to get busy with ACF50 or FS365 from day 1

You don't say wether you bought it new or used and how many miles it has on the clock?

Rot

The best bike I ever had for Corrosion was an 87 FXR.

Kept outside for seven years, sold for more than it cost new and looked in fine condition.

A really well made motorbike but Harley were trying to recover from the old ways and put everything into the new EVO range.

BMW have a winner already so no need to waste cash on finish.

My 1979 R100RT (74,000 miles) is kept outside, never washed, and used all year.

It has virtually no corrosion on it, bar a bit of very superficial rust...

A really well made motorbike :thumb2

if that was true, it wouldn't be corroded.

not cared for well enough, and/or not cleaned often enough.

Ahhhh 8000 miles :blast

My 06 has done 37k, is regularly dowsed in FS365 and the only corrosion is on the two (Touratech) cap head bolts that hold the headlamp grill to the indicators :clap

I think 06 was one of their better years :thumb2
