1200GS. Thought I'd remove the top box rack so I can fit the 'box where the pillion seat goes. Straightforward enough in theory, but in practice the doorway to a world of pain....!

Ran into all sorts of trouble undoing the four nyloc nuts used with the extended bolts to hold the black mounting plate to the rack itself. Simply not possible to undo them beyond a certain point. Despite taking great care, and using a quality (Teng) allen key with the appropriate spanner on the nuts, I've now managed to knacker two of the allen head bolts. These are in situ, and cannot be tightened or loosened from where they are.

So now I have a loose top plate that I cannot risk with my topbox. It'll probably rattle like hell also.

I suspect that when this was originally fitted the nuts were either overtightened, or undone and reused - neither of which you should do with nyloc fittings. I'm going to ask the dealer to rectify this as they fitted the damn thing in the first place....

In the meantime, any radical and/or thoughtful ideas on what I might do to rectify this myself today/tomorrow are welcomed!

Thanks.

-Write ''GOLD'' on it and leave it outside; I'm sure some will be able to remove it for you! ;)
But make sure they won't get the bike, only the rack!
:D Liv.
