My Jan 09 GS 1200 goes fine or so I thought till I rode the Dealers loan bike. Mine sounds agricultural compared to theirs and only pulls really strongly from 5 to 5500 RPM. It also back fires alot under deacceleration. Loan bike goes like hell from low revs and is smooth as anything. The dealer says mine is fine and the loan bike is faster coz its thrashed. But they are so fifferent in charcter I dont buy this. Bike has done 16k plus and im sure is rougher than it was a couple of services back. I use 98 when I can whihc doesnt make a difference. Any thoughts out there or similar experiences? JJ

FWIW, my '09 runs worse on 98 RON than it does on 95. The usual things apply - TPS reset, throttle body balance and it does have enough oil in it, doesn't it ? (eggs, granny and all that.....)

If it runs like shite, why not get Brainstormers to give it a once over.

The bikes get better with miles ridden, maybe yours will improve with time? When my bike gets ridden hard the performance seems to improve, perhaps yours needs an italian tune up.

I have a GS911, if you desperately need a check for faults I can read your fault codes for you though I suspect your bike is fine and just needs a throttle synch and/or valve clearance check.

Performance problem

Hi,
Worth checking your spark plugs, sounds very similar to a problem I had on my 1200GS at 14k miles.
Turned out to be a hairline crack in one plug - new plug fitted problem solved.
Good luck,
Cheers,
Mac

Thansk for this Mac. I will check the plugs, and see if its the same problem you had.

Thanks Schtum. I will get BS to give it a once over at the next service. Oil levels are always kept up, unlike the Test Bikes from BS when on 3 occassions they have all been found wanting oil! I have also been told to check the plugs for any defect? Thanks again. JJ

Thanks for this. Odd that 95 is better for you, although I couldnt tell any difference on this bike at the higher octane, although Im sure my GSA always run better on 98. Thanks again. JJ
