Hi, after some advice on spot lights for a gs 1250. Never came with any from new, but wanting to add some.
What’s the best way to get them added, if I buy a genuine set (2nd hand) with wiring etc. is it a case of bolting on and wiring into the loom somewhere with the connectors (is there a available plug ready for this extra)
Or buy a aftermarket set and have them wired in?
Many thanks

They are not difficult. Lights, mounting bracket, wiring and most likely an accessory manager such as an Hex ezcan. I don't think there are any plugs available spare for a set of lights. Though someone more knowledgeable may correct me

I’ve got a hex ezcan with a set of Denali D2s and it works a treat. Took a few minutes to get the settings to my liking but it works a treat. There are some eBay bundles that cost a bit but will give you a decent saving and include a horn as well and possibly a brake light.

If you get original lights you’ll need a new control cluster to add the fog button and probably need to tell the ecu about them so it could be a main dealer trip ££££

Thanks for reply. Just seen the hex ezcan, with that how do you control the light on/off etc while riding? Is there an aftermarket switch for the handle bar?
Good shout on the genuine type needing a potential ecu update.

Thanks for reply,

Lone Rider Moto Lights and an Ezcan is what I have.
Blinding!

I guess you could use a Hex Ezcan, and program the lights to be on all the time, and then use the “Wonderwheel control” setting to switch them on or off as needed. It’s a bit fiddly and you’d not have any visual indication like a dash indicator light (beyond the lights themselves being on).

Once you programme them, you don't mess about changing them on the go. Well I haven't.

You might want to turn them off before you put the bike in for an MOT. It’ll make their job easier, and they’ll thank you…

I have mine set to 40% during the day, 80% at night and 100% on full beam.

I can also control them by holding the indicator cancel switch in to dim them down to zero.

Mine have selective yellow lenses which make the more visible to other road users and so when I indicate the one in that side turns off and they also flash alternately to hazard lights and rapidly with the horn.

Depending on your budget you could opt to get something like these and power them from a hex ezecan so you can't leave them switched on with the ignition off, rather than taking a feed direct from the battery. I have a similar pair which I've had for about 4 years now, powered via 2 channels of my hex (1 for each side) and used a switch on the handlebars to be able to switch them off when the ignition is on should I want to by using the negative feeds to the lights, rather than the positives. This allowed me to programme the lights so the associated aux lught goes off when my indicators are on. The beauty with a hex is there's no cutting into the bike's wiring loom. I also use the hex to power my bike cam and an additional horn, all programmable via my laptop.

The OP asked how you switch them on and off if using an ezcan.

Thanks for the replies. I’ve looked into the hex set up and didn’t realise how expensive the kit is with spottys 😅 I can get the OEM kit for £250 off eBay, just needing to know if it’s just a case of plug in and play or as above it’s a dealer ship job to program to the ecu

I have a pair of Denali D4 light pods, a special "Bike Thing " light bar and the ezcan unit for sale in the "For Sale" area. Individually I'm asking £410 (£756 new) but if you have them as a bundle I'll do them for £385 including p&p

Cheers
Bob

I would imagine you need to plug them in, code them in and add the switch gear

In complete honesty pal, take @Bob Jeffries up on his offer for the D4 and controller. It's literally plug in and can use the standard switch gear on the BMW to control light brightness or turn them off and configure further with a piece of software on a laptop.

The standard BMW fogs are meh, good for being seen and that's about it. D4's will act as those same fog lights BUT also be brights when you go high/full beam, strobe when you press the horn and fast flash if you need..
