Hi All,

Can anyone advise on a replacement screen for the 1250 GS that's not massive ? Standard screen is ok ish at max height setting but head buffeting gets annoying at motorway+ speeds.Tried a mates Puig Touring screen but it's a bit tall (end up looking through it not over it) Im 5'9 & use an Arai Tour X4 lid, which I'm sure some of you on here will match!

I've an MRA Vario Touring screen fitted to my 2016 1200GS. Like you I'm 5'9 and ride with a peaked lid (Nexx XD1). The MRA, while not being as tall as the likes of the Puig did sort the buffeting I was getting with the stock screen. You can also adjust the winglet at the top of the screen to finetune the airflow to your own preference....gets my vote.

Another vote for MRA Vario Touring screen. For me, the best mod you can do on a GS or GSA.

Puig for me (and my pal) - 80mph visor up cruising, with ease.

I've spent a lot of money trying to solve the buffeting problem but after one year of trial and error I've had it solved. It's not only the screen. There are some other things to do.
So, I started by changing to BMW touring screen, no joy. Then Puig with spoiler. Better but not solved. Then Givi. Again better but not solved. Then Wunderlich. This time much better but still some buffeting. Then I added MRA spoiler on top of it and it gave me some further improvement. As for the screens, that was it for me. 80% of the buffeting was solved but I still wanted to solve the remaining 20%. Next step was to add 20mm spacers (and longer bolts) to lower bolts that tilted the screen towards the rider. Big improvement but 10% of the buffeting was still there.
Those remaining 10% I solved just recently when one day I remembered to test the bike without OEM hand guards. The buffeting was completely gone, 100%. Ordered and installed Burkbusters and buffeting hasn't come back.
So, in my case, problem solved 100%.

I fitted an MRA Vario Touring screen to my R1250GS and (for me) it didn't work. So I swapped it to the OEM screen from a GSA (which is a bit wider) - much better, but still some buffeting. To that I added an MRA Type C spoiler and a set of Wunderlich winglets - which solved the problem for me

My set up is exactly the same as hawkeyes. I have a madstad which is equally as good but i went with my set up purely for looks. Madstad for sale if you're interested.

Thanks Guys for all your suggestions....certainly a few options to choose/try.My first post on the forum & a great response...much appreciated!

I’m a fraction shorter than you and have used both the MRA Vario and Puig Touring screens. I much preferred the Puig and could (just) see over the top of it.

In eight years of GS LC ownership I only used the MRA screen for a trip to the Pyrenees and back. Whilst it looked better and was much better than the OE screen, it was nowhere near as protective as the Puig. My wife was too exposed to windblast, making the intercom useless at higher speeds and she’s only 5’3”, so fairly well protected by my chubby body :P

Put screen into lowest position, that puts helmet into clean air. Nice and quiet without buffeting.
We fitted the shorter sport screen to my girlfriends S1000XR Gen2 and it is a much nicer bike to ride on motorways now.

I hope consensus is right as on the back of this I've ordered the MRA Vario Touring for my 1250 :nenau

It would be interesting to hear your experience with MRA. I've had MRA on few of my previous bikes and it worked great. On GS, after few screens, I settled with Wonderlich Touring screen but to have perfect air flow the only thing that worked was the spoiler added, and again, it is MRA spoiler.
Keep us posted.

I have a Wunderlich screen with a cheap Chinese spoiler from ebay. Never have to ride with my visor down, I’m 5’11” but long in the body (as well as very rotund in the torso!).
