GS 12v Power outlet solution!

Not wanting to drill holes in my lovely GS and finding the under the seat power outlet a bit inconvenient I decided to try my hand at designing a bit of a better option that is useful for the Sat Nav and can also be used to power up items in my tank bag, the result is below. I've road tested mine for about a year now and it has risen to the challenge with flying colours surviving a flood of biblical proportions in the mountains of Slovenia without faltering!

I've had a batch made up which I would like to offer for sale at £10 to my fellow Tossers, I'd appreciate your feed back and if you like it as much as I do then I may even take them to flea bay!

Please note that the price is for the bracket only and does NOT include the 12v power socket, (these are readily available for about £4)

The bracket is fitted in about 5 minutes using the fixings already in place, simply undo the bottom bolt and slip the bracket in place! (I just added a bit of Loctite).

Too expensive? They are made of quality stainless steel and precision drilled, maybe I should get a 'TT' stamp on them and charge £25 each!!

quite frankly

If you fancy fecking about trying to drill stainless steel neatly and nicely be my guest, thats £10 well spent, stainless is a basstard to work with,its fecking hard stuff.
Ally is easier, but bends quite easily and does go furry.

I think your bracket looks good and it suits the 'ultility' look of the GS very well!

I reckon i'd use about £10 in drill bits, hacksaw blades and sticky plasters alone trying to make one of those in my shed. £10 seems good enough value to me.

Just a pity I bought the Touratech double power socket and instrument surround last year for my GSA30, it's very nice but would have looked so much better in s/steel.

Thanks for the interest shown so far and for those of you that have purchased I hope your satisfied with the bracket, I'm going for a short ride round the Picos de Europa for a week or so so if you'd like one please be patient I'll be back about the 29th... and will deal with any purchases then.....thank you

This may be worth the money but why not use the locations provided by BMW on the beak each side of the instruments. BMW have already provided a steel brackets under the beak plus the beak has the hole position moulded into the underside of the beak for guidance in drilling a hole.

It takes half hour or so but the end result is much neater. I have a standard DIN socket with waterproof cover bought on eBay.

It's all about choice, I prefer not to drill holes and risk getting it wrong! I also prefer to have the socket that bit higher as I mainly use it for my satnav mounted on the bar above the dials and this keeps everything tidy. I also just really like the look of it!

Just AAMOI BMW have removed the marking for the hole position on the later bikes, on my 2011 anyway.
The steel support bracket has been changed too, and you need to mark through it with the beak still fitted to get the position to drill.
