In Controller Health ABS VIN mismatch. Bike is a 1200 GSA WC 2014, full dealer history and no parts replaced.
Does anyone else get this response?
There are no error codes and everything works well
At first, I wondered if I had run the diagnostics before the bike had completed its own ABS check, but that does not change the report
There are no conclusive answers on the net and bike is booked in for annual service tomorrow so I'll ask the dealer.

We did this at the dealer I worked at, we had to remove a Servo unit from one bike and fit to another and recode to that VIN so that someone could get away on a European Tour

The new Servo ABS unit was fitted back into the donor bike and I rewrote the frame number into the ABS unit

Not sure of GS911 can show the mismatched VIN ?

clean abs ring front wheel, clear code go ride check again gs-911 should be ok.

Dr Farkoff ; the GS-911 does not reveal the mis matched vin , it only gives the statement . Thanks for your input .

yes sorry forget clear code, just habit of speech, clean abs ring well go ride, then check again.

So GSA 1200 serviced by BMW today and their diagnostics revealed no errors ( but not sure if they were focused on the vin mis match )
So I am non the wiser and will ignore the GS-911 report .

I have the same error, cleared it and comes back every time. Doesn't seem to impact anything so was just ignoring it. Not sure if cleaning ABS ring will work as mine is 10K bike and particularly clean, but will try and see if it works. Mine is an early 2013 LC GS

Unless they Interrogate all the modules for vin clashes it won;t happen

I suspect that the ABS unit was needed for something and pinched and who ever replaced the one you have did not recode the VIN

Possibly It may be a glitch with Hexcode Have you asked in the 911 forum ?

Not clean or slight bend can give errors, but post 8 have valid point also.

Dr Farkoff ; I’ve had the bike since new , full dealer service and nothing touched with the braking system ( in fact , with the exception of water pump failure in 2019, it’s been excellent ) . So nothing pinched off another bike
I will ask GS-911. Can’t find anything on Google searching
Bike only 16,000 miles and very clean incl abs ring ; bad signal would surely in any case give a fault
Meintjiesj ; I have done a ‘fault code clear ‘ and ABS vin mis match remains

My newish to me 2013 also shows a mismatch. I was assuming something was replaced at some point but maybe not given some of the comments on this post.

I just plugged my GS911 into my 2014 GSAW and saw the same Fault code. The machine has been sitting there for 14 months while I toiled in the Covid 19 ward seven days a week. Can't imaging the source of such an error let alone the solution.

Sounds like it's a software update gone wrong...
Someone with this problem should contact hexcode.

Reported and response , with some awkward language, is ;
“The GS-911 is expecting the ABS controller to report the bike's VIN.
The ABS no longer stores it or reports what it is.
The GS-911 then throws out a warning about this on the controller itself, but this is not listed as a fault code.
We will be changing this to not expect the VIN, but still report that it doesn't pick it up.
This will then be displayed as a yellow/amber light in the autoscan health report.”

So seems like a software update needed .

Thank you for update, I find GS-911 do not update as good as before, tool not as I thought it would be.

Thanks for checking with them, I thought it was probably a software issue. Must say the GS911 software is very flakey, had to reconnect about 3 times the weekend to reset the service interval and set the time. They really should spend a bit more money on the developer of the software.

Thank you for both following up and reporting out on the response. As illogical as this apparently is it is helpful to know that there is nothing to be done.

Same here. I bought the 911 to try and clear another error and the error report includes the ABS mismatch message (May 2014 bike). So it's either a fault with the 911's or something was not being done in the factory in the early months of manufacture. Either way, it's not caused a problem.

Funny, i ran a scan on my 2016 LC today, and got vin msmatch

However i have got a new main ECU fitted, after mine borked it'self

So i guess, either Hex haven't updated the firmware, or it's seeing the new ECU as an intruder ;)

Hello all,

2009 R1200RT, I had to replace the ABS unit with a used unit as the electronics side had failed rather than the mechanical side of things so couldn't simply swap the black box over as I have done before.
I can see using GS911 that there is a VIN number mismatch, I have tried a BMW dealer to write the VIN of the bike to the (new used) ABS unit but it seems they can't do it?
I can see by the 2nd post that DrFarkoff has done this, I wonder how it was done?
Any help gratefully received.
Kindest regards
Graeme
