GS-911

Bear in mind that 99% of diagnostic scanners , software update devices used in the motor trade by independant dealers/ specialists are aftermarket - whether they be Snap On , European made or even from the far east.

Okay a lot of so called E Bay bargains made in China are total tat (MAF sensors with no guts in them - turbos that are fit only for poor quality scrap) but if scanners are bought from a reputable source there is nothing the matter with aftermarket diagnostics equipment.

Someone kill this spammy pirate thread please?

Or actually don't, so folk can figure out for themselves you get exactly what you pay for in life.

“The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.”

That quote is generally attributed to Benjamin Franklin, inventor, patriot and a shrewd judge of people. Although he spoke those words more than 200 years ago, they remain true today.

Choosing a product or service solely on price is generally a losing situation and people almost always end up paying more in the long run when price is the only factor.

Author John Ruskin made the following observation: “There is hardly anything in the world that someone cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper, and the people who consider price only are this man’s lawful prey. It’s unwise to pay too little.”
Quoted from the web..

P.S. why would anyone want a " mileage/odometer correction tool"?
Over the years I must have had in excess of 100 vehicles between cars, vans and bikes.
How many odometers are actually swapped out from faults? :nenau

So that you can correct(reduce) the mileage and charge lots more.

Yes amazing co-incidence that all these people have just joined and that their 1st posts are all on this thread....:augie

Wow. With all these genuine positive references it must be fantastic. Let me go and buy one piece. Why don't we all share this positive attitude and buy one piece?

is there any tossers who club together to by a genuine gs-911, even the basic (£210) one will do ten bikes i would happily part with 25% cost of a new one if a few guys in mansfield area are up for it

AFAIConcerned, there should be a law against easily available odo correction tools - we will all suffer in the end.

Slightly O.T.

Have you ever seen how easy it is to buy lock picks, both mechanical devices and automated. No regulation what so ever. I've a friend now working in the safe opening business, originally trained as a lock smith and the things he has bought of the web would make you wonder why we lock things up at all. As he says " locks are only to keep honest people out"

Firstly I notice a company called www.autooBd2.co.uk are selling these devices currently for £153. Have any of you bought one from this company? Are they to be trusted?
Secondly I assume it works perfectly on the new r1200GSA CAMHEAD.

I too noticed the GS911 on sale with autoobd2, and emailed the link to hexcode for comment......as many have said here the units on sale are counterfeit. Easily identified by the fact that on the plug all pin locations are populated, and typically by a box that does not carry a barcoded sticker. The units come with a software disk rather than download service and will not be supported for software updates.

Also consider that saving some money on this item might result in substantial damage to your trusted steed if the unit turns out to be badly manufactured.

I was disappointed to find that the items were not legitimate, but am not tempted. Better buy from Irish authorised vendor for euro300 with exchange at 1.2euro to the pound.......this seems to be the best option having looked at Polish suppliers, South African vendors (I have connections out there) and Australian options via family locally......all worked out pretty close to UK prices.

Hi, i bought a 911 from OBD2uk not originally knowing that it was fake until they contacted me via email about shipping and i can say it works great. I registers with the genuine 911 web site as being an American unit and downloads the updates without a hitch and isnt limited to the number of bikes you can use it on. Before i bought this i tried a genuine 911 from mate at work and can report the fake unit works exactly the same without being limited to the number on bikes it can be connected to.

Soon to be posted in the "For sale section" ....8 month old Genuine GS911 Enthusiast model with one VIN number installed ...watch that space

We all know China is cheap for manufacturing and quality need not be poor. The iPhone is made over there at a cost of about £200. The remaining £300 goes to Apple for the design and label.

The issue with China is its artificial exchange rate. Somehow, the Chinese government decide what the rate should be and have set it to keep their exports cheap. When they decide enough's enough, the rate will change and China wont be so under-cuttingly cheap.

But by then most of western "industry" looking to scratch away at every penny will have no manufacturing ability of its own so where do we go then? Ask the Germans. They seem to be keeping most of their stuff in-house and people will still pay the resulting higher prices.

My issue with China is their dodgy business methods. I once worked for a company that sold control systems for utilities (water, gas, oil, coal, etc.). The kitted out a coal mine but were constantly messed about by the customer with late payments and fatuous claims of faulty equipment all done at arms length. Basically the UK company should have walked away at the first sign of trouble but they were professionals. In the end the non payments broke the business and the Chinese still got the technology at little or no cost.

With hindsight it was clearly a fix from day one. Things are better now but much of Chine is a commercial jungle full of land mines. There are no laws to turn to when a Chinese customer refuses to pay or a manufacturer provides poor service/products.

You could argue about intellectual property rights versus reverse engineering BMW protocols to build a GS911 in the first place, but as Hexcode in Zaire did the legwork in making the product there's no way I want to reward some unscrupulous Chinaman for ripping off their product.

Caveat Emptor.

Can't believe some people will risk buying a fake when the price of the original one taking into account the excellent after sales support and updates is a bloody bargain, use it once and it's virtually paid for when you consider dealer servicing prices.

Nowt to do with Hexcode just a satisfied user on an 1150 and twin cam, if you do your own servicing get one and not a fecking copy:rob

sittin on fence

i own a 2009 gs 1200 Adventure brought for 14'000 ish brand new first year cost me 450 service fees only 9000 km.
Just about due for next service will do myself, filters plugs valve clearances and end float and balance of cables etc etc. I am hoping to do a more thorough job than dealer. I want an obd2 reader to correctly identify faults etc but seem we are all blind sided into thinking only gs911 will do or main dealer of course. Why is it that no other product will do this simple task. Bearing in mind there are many car obd reader on the market capable of reading many manufacturers codes to some degree some better than others. All this for sometimes less than 30.00 quid. Why is there are none capable of reading bikes or even hgv's at even close to this price.
F.Y.I take a look at the sealey obd2 reader about 35.00 on the bay. there are many copies to be seen only painted different colours out there
I am angry whilst reading this tittle tattle on here about loyalty to the brand and extreme predjudice towards chinese or otherwise copies of such.
I feel if the original manufacturesrs were to market their product at a more competitive price it would push out these fakes. I can speak from experience as i run a nissan 300zx tt 1990 car . Nissan Consult is the product used to diagnose car faults etc. I can tell you i purchased a product called Nissan ConZult "a copy" and it works perfectly and have had no problems apart form my computer dying with original password encrypted copy within. I contact manufacturer and was able to download another copy which i also backed up on a flash at no cost . That was in my opinion exceptional service.
Bring on the rain.......

I think the argument is about poor quality fake products. Equally good products by other makers should be fine (assuming there are any).

I have used FiatECUScan which has an amazing range of features. If Yani did one for BMW bikes I would buy no quibbles.

I wonder if the bike ECU is on his list
http://www.multiecuscan.net/

I have a genuine GS911 and if anyone want to loan it let me know all I would need is a deposit for the full value and a small fee to cover wear and tear it has 5 free bike slots but will do fault finding without adding the bike.
