GS Centre Stand

My R80GS basic is quite easy to put onto the centre stand… a better designed stand that my s80st ( g/s special’… g/s height suspension and stand)

Left to right: 1.Standard gs 2. Motobins, generic type, not identical but fits gs. Cost about £60 IIRC 3. gs, cut down version done by PO. Leaves both wheels touching the floor. I've got an r100r version somewhere too, will measure that up at some pointCentre stands resized.jpg

The R100GsPD is difficult to get onto the centre because is was designed to see-saw with a substantial gap under the rear wheel; this was so that in the field weight could be put on the rear of the bike to remove the front wheel or weight to the front of the bike to remove the rear wheel.

The technique to get the bike onto the centre stand is to use body weight behind the centre stand, left foot on stand left hand in frame lifting handle, right hand taking a firm grip on pannier rail and dead lift with a straight back using one’s manly thighs.

The key is balance and not to rush or the bike could fall away from you, ensure the centre stand is on firm level ground..Practice perhaps with friend standing by..🤘

Good question. From the pics I'd estimate a couple of cm but I'll dig it out and see if I can get better meaurements. Having both wheels on the ground was a PITA which is why I bought the 'generic' one from Motobins. This is a cm of so shorter than standard and, IIRC, the nearside leg kicks out a little wider so overall a bit easier to use.

The cut down version has been disassembled so proving difficult to compare. Best guess is that it is about 1.5cm shorter, possibly slightly more
