GS died on the motorway - looking for help diagnosing

Yep I will go with that @ 11,580 miles in for 12,000 service!

DrF, What's the procedure for cleaning the debris out of the crankcase when this happens? Poking around with a magnet and then hoping for the best with a couple of oil changes?

This thread reminds me I need to refurb my ticking RH throttle body.

The cylinder will need to come off for fitting the new piston and checking the con rod is ok. The sump can be checked with an endoscope camera. Large lumps from damage like this are probably harmless but should be easy enough to vacuum out of the sump.

Magnet doesn't pick up aluminum ...

I made a stand and lifted the motor out and vacuumed the inside and poked and hoked with an airline until I had any major bits out but I did a CSI thing and laid them out and only stopped when I was 99% sure I had nearly enough to fill the missing bits

Magnets? Hah, silly me!
Thanks for photos. Very interesting. How lucky for metropolis2k with only a chipped valve.

My GS is at 102k miles. Original clutch, crown wheel bearing, slave cylinder. All inevitable jobs but a dropped valve and holed piston - that would be a downer.
