I have a new 1100 drive shaft with 1150 swing arm which I had intended to fit to my GSPD but may not get around to doing.

But I want to know if the 1100 shaft fits the 1150 in case I ever need a spare.
Also is the procedure for changing all bearings the same for both models?

What, so no one knows, or am I a leper?:D

BTW, by 'bearings' I meant everything aft of the gearbox.

when the 1150 was introduced, I remember reading that it had sligtly shorter swingarm due to the gearbox being slightly longer. Therefore my opinion is that they might not fit, then again as the shafts are telescopic, maybe they do....

Ag1s, thanks for that.

In a few hours and 300+ miles I'll be passing Glasgow, I suppose it's flippin freezin up there, glorious sunhine here in N wales!!

Tim, as far as the bearings go and I'm assuming you mean the pinion bearings at the rear of the housing that locate the shaft just before the bevel drive, they are the same for both bikes.

Last Sunday, I helped a fella with an Adventure and we pulled his pinion bearings out to check and torque them correctly as he had slight play. I noted that they were the same as my 1100 system.

As for the shaft I'm not sure. The main difference I knew about is that the 1150 shaft housing is narrower where the wheel runs alongside, the reasoning was to fit fatter tyres and/or to have more clearance between the tyre.

This resulted in the situation that if you wanted to remove your shaft to lubricate the splines or check them, you have to remove the entire swinging arm. I'm happy with my 1100 shaft thank you very much.

Mick.

Thanks for that Mick, one other reason for asking about the bearings is that I was thinking of replacing them before problems arise. The 1150 CD manual is not as clear as perhaps a Haynes manual for the 1100 is.

And CC thanks for the weather report, I chickened out and came up in the car, fog nearly all the way up the M6. Yuk. Get here to find the freezing fog has lifted and is now the mildest part of the UK and my bikes are 350 miles away:rolleyes:

Think one of them is going to have a change of address.

Tim,
are there any roadworks from Alva down to The M56 (where I guess you turned right), as I'm on a very tight shedule there tomorrow and need to lknow if to go down the M74/M6 or down the A1/M1.

Thanks

Blimey your'e just down the road I could have heard that question from here (Causewayhead) if you'd shouted:shout

There were a few contra flows or one lane closed off, though none causing any real congestion, but I always time my journey to miss the rush hour(s) in both Lancs/Greater Manchester and that new roundabout near Denny.
Not so sure about just south of the M56 turn off.

Have a safe trip, there's some bloody nutters out there.

Tim

In that case, I did hear on the Radio 2 travel reports yesterday of problems on the A9 just S of Perth but that may have been an accident, so temp.

Long trip for you, the M6 is certainly not the full on blast it can be, unless you travel late on a Saturday night. (speed cameras at some areas where cones are present)

Tim

I can't get the Van until 0830 in the morning so am restricted. Still should be fairly free of traffic with it being a Saturday and people still sleeping off the Friday night..

Andy

I'm with you now, didn't put 2+2 together, I had thought of bringing the GSPD up in my Transit this weekend, probably could have squeezed them both in, perhaps a bit too tight though, oh well.

Right, better go and do something useful before girly phones to meets for coffee in Italian cafe. It's a hard life being a GS'er.

1100 Cardan shaft won't fit a 1150 swingarm.

1150 Swingarm is shorter ( 6 speed gearbox instead of 5 speed for 1100 ).

Perhaps that's why you can choose at HPN between 1100 & 1150 swingarm conversions. ( 1100 for the real deal, 1150 for the 'inseam challenged' )

Greetings
