After much persuation and stating that I'll use my relialbe Harley until the problem is resolved, SBW have reluctantly agreed to look at the GS on Friday. However, because they're very busy at the moment (probably replacing Fuel controllers), they can't spend much time replacing components etc.
If it's the fuel controller will this be reveiled using diagostic equipment ?.

I'll post the outcome.

Nick

What a sad thing to have to say A Harley more relpable than a BMW.
Buy an old 1100gs

Oh and as someone on here said to me about 1200gs they only break down because theres so many of them.:aidan

Biggles

Motorcycles owned currently:: R1100gs Ah, I thought so! Now has anybody really gone back from a 1200GS to an 1150 or 1100? (and really thought they were better?)

I believe Shep went one step further, and went from an oily one to an airy one.

I'd be interested to see how this pans out.

Two friends of mine have gone from broken down 1200GS to (so far reliable) 1150GS. They love their second hand machines.
To me that would never be an option (I hate the servo assist).

Servo

"....To me that would never be an option (I hate the servo assist)...." Now that is interesting because I thought the servo was absolutely marvellous on my first 1200GS. i live in a very hilly windey area; However the 2008 model that I now have seems to have brakes that are equally efficient and better than the 'ordinary' brakes before.

Progress,

I had an 1100 (R though, not GS) an 1150GS a 1200GS, very briefly an 800GS and now another new 1200GS. Sometimes it is parked beside an R80ST that I owned about ten years ago - I should have kept it and would have a much better looking bank balance now. ( Or I could have stayed with the R60, my first BMW in 1976.)
Please don't try to be rational about our toys.

My R1100gs dosent have servo brakes so you might like it :)
Are they toys or a way of life?
Nothing rational about me

Bike still not fixed

Bike was checked out again today ( battery, coils, pipes, hoses ,etc), it was decided in the end not to play with the idle . It is apparent that when the brake ( servo assist ) is used the idle drops ( bike is stationery) to 1000 revs and it fluctuates +/- , to the point of ruff running. When accessory's are used there is no change in the idle.
The bike will be checked out by the Bracknell eng. Techs at Bahnstormer cant come up with a solution.
I have a feeling about this servo.... If it needs replacing ,it will cost £2500 +/- A PENNY, including labour . May who ever come up with the idea to fit it to a bike , get syphilis from a she-boy.
Nix , I just noticed that your BM is a 07 , that means you dont have a servo brake...

Idling speed

My 2004 GS with servo brakes behaved perfectly BUT I did notice that when I braked the lights dimmed, sometimes considerably. Are you and all the experts convinced that your battery is OK? yes, I know it has been checked - but I would be inclined to try it out with a new fully charged battery. Mysterious things, batteries; some go on 'forever' whilst others seem feeble from new.

That was the first question this morning , no they don't dim.

Took the GS into SBW today and they couldn't find any faults, plus nothing was recorded in the ECU.
They thought it might be crap or contaminated fuel, which I suppose might be true as recently the bike wasn't used for a couple of months.
Not entirely convinced, but all I can do is keep using it and keep my fingers crossed.

New possibilities

"...They thought it might be crap or contaminated fuel, which I suppose might be true as recently the bike wasn't used for a couple of months...."
That does rather change the issue. It does seem that bikes which are used every day give far less trouble than those that are stored for some time; the same certainly used to apply to cars, but my car (which lives and gathers dust in the garage for many months) always starts up instantly.
