getting the triple black gs on saturday, understand comes with imobiliser,
dealer tells me bmw alarm £250, previously ive had meta alarm and datatag on previous bikes

dealer then said quite often people dont bother with alarms these days?

your thoughts appreciated, thought it was a must have !!

any advice whats best fitted to gs?...easy to fit etc?

thanks in advance

Never had an alarm on any of my bikes, wouldn't if you paid me.

My son has had two bikes with alarms that have caused his bikes to stop, admittedly they were older bikes (about 5 - 8 years).

Who pays attention when an alarm sounds off anyway?

IF you normally park your bike within earshot, an alarm can be useful. Otherwise it's probably not worth the bother/expense, as Joe Public will pay zero attention to any activation (and the scrotes who steal bikes know this).

never had an alarm on any of my bikes, how many times have you walked past a vehicle with an alarm going off and paid no real attention to it

Awreet Geordie, I was of the same thoughts, picking my GS up next week and I thought I'd need the alarm for insurance but the dealer said not really, I rang Carole Nash today to check how much it would cost to switch over from my other bike and they weren't bothered that it never had an alarm, so I'm gonna give it a miss this time, they only get on my nerves anyway lol all that beeping and constantly going off when trying to wash it / move it about the garage...

I'm gonna spend the money on a HID kit instead! :beerjug:

Ok Just dont go running to anyone when the theiving bastards nick it not ten paces from you, when you're watching the golf/F1 porn etc. Someone on here just posted the exact same or similar thing. An alarm can be very useful to alert you something is wrong, and even better if your within potentail thieves punching range. the next bike I get im going to pay for a PAGING ALARM and maybe even a TRACKER.

Since the bike already has a coded key - why not just go for a good motion-sensing disc lock?

It'll never spoil your holiday :rob

+1 - I agree, bought a GS a while ago & first thing I did was to remove the alarm

Had the OE alarm on my 1200from new. 8 years now and no problems. Switches on and off manually via they key fob.
Not worried about general public responding - I will.

:rob

Where do you keep the bike overnight ? In a garage - don't bother. Also if you dont use the bike for long periods it will run the battery down.

However if you leave it on the street outside your house I'd be tempted to go for it.

Only ever had one breakdown on a bike, only ever had one alarm (2008 Honda VFR) guess what caused the bike not to start? I rest my case your honour.

That's a pretty persuasive argument :rob

Al

Reduced insurance

I had alarm on my F800GS, and have ordered alarm on my new R1200GS Rallye. I get a discount on my insurance when alarm are installed, so after two years it have payed itself down. Somthing to think about....
(I live in Norway)

Alarm is the worse thing you can have on your bike !
I remember the time that I stop in the front off the Eiffel Tower to take a pic :blast and the alarm was interfering with the radio signal and couldn't start the bike :blast and so many times to petrol station's:mad:
I went to the first dealer and asked them to take the bloody thing out and smash it to bits . And gues what no one bother to steal my bike , is insured and I have a pace off mind :nenau if I see some one taking my bake away , I just not even going to argume with him or her :thumb2
