I don't know if anyone might have some knowledge of this, but I'm looking at the possibility of installing GS11** handlebars onto an 1150RT.

I suffer from arthritis in my wrists and find the position of the RT bars uncomfortable to the extent I can't operate the throttle after half an hour or so of riding.

I've never had the problem when I've ridden an 1150GS as the width of the bars is greater, and the angle less severe.

Bar risers helped slightly on the RT, but I'm looking for a better solution. MV Verholen manufacture an adjustable bar riser set which alters the angle of the standard alloy bars by up to 15 degrees. The problem with this set-up is they also move the handlebar grips forward, so I would expect the reach to be further than required. They are also prohibitively expensive.

My idea is replace the RT top yoke/triple clamp with one from a GS11** and install standard GS bars. The mountings of the GS triple yoke look the same as the RT, but without obtaining the parts and comparing I cant be sure. Also I'm unsure if the GS bars would foul the RT tank/fairing. I know I'll probably need to alter the hydraulic hoses and wiring.

Any suggestions or alternative ideas? (other than selling the RT and buying a GS that is! :P)

Sounds to me like you have an opportunity to be a pioneer. Take lots of pics, you could be the first of many:thumby:
