Had a great weekend on the new bike. Spent today up in the dales done a 200 mile loop on top of the 50 miles i did yesterday.

Still running the bike in (avoided really high revs but its a gs so you don't need that anyway), a few initial observations:

Fueling is spot on, the engine is so smooth and grunty, road mode/map suits me just fine all the power is there if you need it.
Economy, computer showing 48.9 mpg, and i didnt hang about spending the day hooning on a and b roads.
Tank range seems good for 200 miles.
Seat comfort is not as good as my previous 2012 gsa, its ok but a bit of arse ache after an hour or so in the saddle.
Screen was on its highest setting (am 6'2") and overall i think pretty good, no complaints.
Handling and ride, brilliant, just brilliant.:bow
Tyres - seen some 2014 bikes with conti trail attacks, mine has anakee 3 and they are a great tyre. On the gsa they literally howled above 60mph, no such noises on the GS. Very happy with them no complaints.
Brakes, faultless stopping power.
Mag wheels - great no more scraping knuckles trying to clean spokes in vain.
Gearchange....hate to say it but the up gear change into 2nd ranges from a bit graunchy to bloody awful, so much so you can feel the feedback through the pedal. Ive ensured the lever is fully in, been slow, been fast but its still graunchy more often than not). Span adjuster is on 3.
Quality. A few issues. There is a scratch on the rh switchgear (clumsy fitting of rear view mirror?), and a few other parts dont quite seem up to par, the inside of the front wheel has some bobbles of paint (there are also some water beads in the photo).
Engine casing, looks like undercoat or something :nenau
Sat Nav- i bought a nav 4 from this site, currently either the nav battery? or the bike has an issue. At engine tickover the nav unit says ignition not running , 30 seconds to switch off, on repeat (it doesnt count down just flicks between 29 and 30 seconds, once up and running the messages disappear, but kick again when you pull in at the next stop, Nav thinks the ignition is off and starts flashing the message again.

Overall thoughts, a really exciting and competent bike, easily on a par with my 2010 multistrada for fun ( i had both wheels off the ground at one point- a first for me on a gs) but with fewer quirks. Have to say the gearbox, nav, and wheel issue/switchgear scratch are all a bit of a concern (my gsa had just 1 warranty claim for a corroded mirror) , but dont detract too much such is the abilities of the bike, needless to say i expect them sorting so will be making a phone call to the dealer tomorrow.

an absolutely stunning bike ! Still grinning from ear to ear!

SiRich: the grin is priceless. For everything else there is MasterCard :) the LC is an awesome machine. Enjoy, ride safe and thanks for sharing.

Have you got the latest version of the Garmin firmware in the Nav IV, Simon....?

Where's the quality control person....needs firing!

Hate to say this, but the Nav V is light years better than the nav IV. You should have bitten the bullet, especially seeing how much you spent on the bike.

Geez 15 large and they forget to fill the paint pot ! The wheel finish is normal tho.

I see where you're coming from im sure nav V is the dogs danglies, but tbh I'm not that fussed and this unit was half the price. The garmin nuvi in my car (which cost a lot more than the bike) cost me £25, 18 months ago, has never let me down, and gets used more than this nav ever will.

Still at a loss as to whats going on with the nav, with it not recognising that the ignition is on at tickover but being fine once on the move. Spoke to dealer today, i asked them if it was likely to be the software on it, they were a bit vague but said they thought not, but i will try a software update first off as suggested earlier in the thread. Nav unit appeared to be holding charge off the bike. Will have a proper play when get chance this week.

Waiting to hear back from them on the other stuff, the bit on the wheel thats bugging me is where some metal has built up in one place.

The wheel can be simply swapped. I'd be more annoyed about the engine paint.

my 2014 spec bike does not do that.

.

Mine doesn't do that either..

Get it in writing that you logged concern at 300 miles..

Quality controll issues on a WC !!
That is heresy and you should be banned for a minimum of one month from the section for having the audacity to say such a thing !

I have May 2013 GS LC and gearbox is not good. Difficult to get into neutral when hot and similar 'grind' when changing 1st to 2nd sometimes. Unofficial solutioon was mentioned and my local supplier agreed to implement some modifications to the clutch/gearbox as per BMW suggestions (but not a recall). Result is much improved gear change when hot or cold. I suggest you tell your BMW supplier that 'you know someone who had a mod done - so do it to mine please'.

Absolutely awesome bike all round otherwise.

Now on 440 miles

Now up to 440 miles.

Nav IV was sorted with a software update.:D:blast
New Front wheel is on order.
What i thought was a scratched rh switchgear and engine casing..... dealer showed me a few other gs's in the showroom inc a new gsa and they were all the same:eek:
Gearchange, improving but still the odd graunch into second.

Engine feels like its nicely loosening up, throttle silky smooth, the performance throughout the rev range is simply a vast improvement on the twin cam imho. Im finding the seat comfort isnt great compared to my previous gsa, so that may need addressing with an aftermarket seat (any suggestions?). I thought the thumbwheel for the nav might get caught when indicating but it doesnt. Ah the new indicators ......a backward step and i have to stretch my thumb a smidge to indicate but its no major big deal, you do get used to it. Quality, overall, not too bad but have to admit not where it used to be on some odd bits of trim here and there seem a bit cheapo or stripped out.

Economy showing 49mpg on the computer, av speed 40mph.

Cruise control, really easy to use despite thinking it would be a waste of time its coming in quite handy so far.

Overall, a class act.:bow

I also have just got over 400 miles on my new GS and have similar experiences. Great bike, get about 200 miles to a tank full although today the range was down to 17 miles and yet I only got 17 litres in when I filled up. Still better that the range errs on the side of caution, no point running out and that seems accurate enough.
Gear change is pretty good with the notable exception of engaging first from neutral at a standstill, then there's a horrible gnashing of teeth and a lurch forward, not good but the demo I road had the same problem.
Still running in so keeping revs down below 5k but there's still plenty of go up to 80 ish.
Nice up shifts, almost clutch less and very smooth so maybe I'll forgive the problems engaging first especially after reading all the posts about difficulty shifting.
The bike came with Conti Trail Attacks and for the first 200 miles I was distinctly uneasy about them. I had a couple of unexpected slides and they felt like they were very slippy and worrying. I then discovered the dealer had handed over the bike with grossly over inflated tyres, 3.5 & 3.9 BAR:eek. I know I should have checked them earlier and the dash did show 3.5/3.9 but I'm old school and used to PSI:rolleyes: Now I've got the corrected pressures in and a reasonable contact patch on the road there's a world of difference, as you'd expect. I'm really pissed off with the dealer and shall be in touch with them on Monday, if they can't get the tyre pressures right what chance is there of a proper service being done to spec.? I have used this dealer for the last two services on my previous bike, an RT, and felt they always did a good job but this has undermined my confidence in their ability. It also severely undermined my confidence in a corner until I realised what was wrong!
Still not managed to scrape the pegs but I'm nearly there and feeling much happier about the bike and much less happy about the dealer!
