GS-Meeting in Finland

Exhale

Just small advice to you guys when you take the ferry from Tallinn.
Keep your helmets on at all times. It will protect you from all viruses known to a man and mankind (bikers)
By the way, we have a TB chain of petrol-stations here in Finland. (full name Teboil) which is part of Lukoil, russian oil-company.
And where does most of the tb cases appear these days...? Makes you think, eh? ;)
So beware when passing Luk-stations on your way here.

I out of principal only exhale when abroad.... you'll not catch me breathing in that durty foreign air...

I could catch something....:D

If I can make it you'll recognise me a mile or 1.6Km away for the simple reason I look like chaos on the move, my camping skills are non existant... I camp like a refugee....and I like setting fire to places...(it's a school thing don't worry about it). I lack social skill an education how lucky can you get I ask you....:blast can't spell, read or write... these are my plus points....:blast

anyway I think I've got the time off... so if you could ban me now and close your borders it might be safer kind regards Lo-IQ....:D

PS I suffer from turrette's...... it's a Brucy bonus and no mistake about it....:blast

I've never been to the Nordic countries and this looks like an ideal trip, so I'm putting some series thought into it.

My plan so far is to catch the Harwich to Esbjerg ferry and then ride up to Stockholm where it looks like I can then catch another ferry to Helsinki, arriving at about 10am on Friday 17.

If there is then going to be a group meeting there and riding to the rally, if you don't mind, I could hang around for a couple of hours and join in.

Does this sound workable?

JiTe, from Esbjerg to Stockholm is about 1000kms and I have about 24 hours between ferries to do it. Is wild camping allowed in Sweden or if I stick to the main roads (which I'll probably do) will I find plenty of places to stay?

Cheers

Mark

In Sweden and most of scandinavia we have similar "everymans-rights" so you can camp basically anywhere providing you use commonsense where to do so. There is not as many nice lakeside-places to stay on your way to Stockholm, but after Jonkoping there might be some wild-camping possibilities. (Cant remember exactly, long time since last used that road)

E4 is pretty booooring road but there is a hotel in Jonkoping, just of the E4 http://www.lodging-world.com/search.sw.sweden._.jonkoping.html
Or this one bit earlier http://www.8-motel.se/eng.html Nearer to Stockholm http://www.nordiccamping.se/docs/mainobject.asp?fac=4 Other than that "world is your oyster" as they say. If you´re interested i can come and meet you as well when you land, and maybe meet others later.
Hope this answer was any help.

Thank you for your reply. My plan is now taking shape, once I hear back from the ferry company (Viking Lines) about the ferry from Stockholm to Helsinki I will start to get everything booked.

Really looking forward to this:thumb2

the hotel at Jonkpoing shuts at night time or they didn't like the look of me.... so I had a night in the truck, the lake is really pretty and pretty big I must post some pictures of my recent...ish:augie trip... in a truck

the Grimsby to Gotenburg crossing is also pretty good...

Wayhay! The war office has given me a pink ticket for the week!:bow :JB

JiTe, do we only register on the website if we are coming or is it a register of interest?

Really looking forward to it now.:thumb2

Yes, only register if you definately are coming. Or if you want to guaranteed room in the spa. Tent pitches are available even if booked later. You should reserve a spot. There is plenty time to cancel if you cant make it. Also remember to choose which route to drive on saturday.

I think at least one of us might be up for this. I need to check dates, etc. Will decide soon. The attendance or Mr & Mrs Toad may well swing it.

Tourist route, yes. You´ll have more time to enjoy scenary. If you are in anyways seasoned driver go for smaller-route option.

JiTe.......

Can you tell us more about the two route options on the Saturday and what they involve please - I am making a decision this week.

Thanks for all the info.....

Big-route is usually easy-going "sightseeing" route. It does not require off-road experience and its suitable for beginners. It is driven mostly on gravelroads which are used by cars. Some parts can be slightly looser surface but no water-crossings etc. No knobbly tires needed and most of driving is done seated.
Smaller route is a bit more challenging. You can definately work out an good sweat with this route. No great offroad experience needed, but willing to challenge you and your bike is a plus. Can be driven with normal Tourance etc. tires. I did smaller-route last year with EXP`s and managed fine. Only in some really muddy parts i wished that i´ve had knobblies. Most of driving done standing on footpegs. Electronic driving aids recommended turned off for this route. I`ll promise that nobody is left behind. If there is a anyone of you who would like to try this route but think that its too hard, just do it. We can always make a group where going is a bit easier even for smaller-route.

Ok, I've just registered myself and Mrs Toad.

:bounce1:bounce1

We're planning to leave on the 13th and ride up through the Baltics.

Maybe see Tallinn or somewhere near on the night of the 16th, and then take an early ferry to arrive in Helsinki 10ish.

Maybe meet up with MarkN and anyone else????? Ride then up to the site for an early arrival and a swim :)
