GS Metal Paniers?

Here's a few pics of my hard work. Unfortunately the pics don't really show them up in great detail, maybe because they are too shinny for the camera? Thing is they don't really look out of place, they just look new!

Look good to me! :thumb2

I'm sure they'll dull down after a while.

I'm pretty sure on my first Gsa I polished my panniers with Autosol to remove ingrained marks and scuffs....and those went shiny and lost the brush finish......but they looked ok.

I think over a period of time you're going to have to revert to giving them a good polishing to remove marks/scuffs at some stage....

....once you've done it once there's nothing to worry about doing it from then on. :augie

Thanks stretch. Bike has done 13000 miles in 2.5 yrs. I've just finish cleaning her hence why it looks good. I've got the Sargent seats on loan over the weekend. Not sure about the colour - too much black for the bike! But if it's more comfy that's all that counts, but I do like the colour of the original seats.

:thumb2 Re the Sargent seat's I think they look well because it adds a non standard appearance, which I am sure you will get used to.

I bought my Sargent Seat after doing 2500 miles on the standard seat, the only reason I decided to by one was just to give me those few extra MM's of leg reach to the Tarmac.
My first trip into Wales with it and I thought what the flipping eck have I bought :blast It took a while but now I think it is marvellous and I've always got it to sell if I ever decide to Part Ex. :beerjug:

Best regards Stretch :)

What to do about locks

Rather than start a new thread:

I've got a pair of used aluminium GSA panniers (like the ones above but not so shiny!) which I want to sell as I've moved on to a Metal Mule set. I've got the frames to go with them as well as the exhaust which has been replaced too.

Question: what do I do about the locks? They're coded to my bike but obviously I do't want to give away my key. Would a buyer be able to get the locks changed by a dealer?

Thanks for any help,

MB

Dealer should have no problem re-coding the locks to your keys. Quit cheap per lock, but a lot of locks....3 per pannier and 2 for the top box.

Take the panniers to your dealers and ask them to remove the cylinders using your key, then sell the panniers with the loose cylinders.

New owner then takes the panniers/cylinders to his dealers (or he does it himself) and they'll code it to his keys.

Sorted. :thumb2

Thanks. Is that something I could do myself?

It's not too difficult, and I think there are details on this forum on how to do it somewhere.

It only takes a minute to do a cylinder.

Personally I'd ask a favour of your friendly dealer....I did. :augie :D

Friendly dealer? I guess you've not been to Battersea. I'll have a look and get the instructions from the forum. Thanks.

They should be at least be able to give you the required information...or maybe even another more friendly dealer at the end of a phone?

I'm sure you push the key in, turn it, and there's a 'tab' that you push down and it releases the cylinder?? That may be wrong, cos it's only what I remember from watching it done over a year ago....but it really is a two minute job....when you know how. :augie

I've just cleaned the panniers & top box. They were water marked and had a few scratches with lots of dried insects on the front. I washed them, rubbed with wet plastic scourer, rubbed with brasso wadding & then cleaned up with acf50. I think they look ok, you can see the scratch marks, sort of like lightly brushed Ali & not to shiny

Just bought vac bags from Pound Saver @ £1 each, 80cm x 100cm, one for each pannier and top box. This should protect them in my cold, damp garage. Just thought I'd pass on this tip.

Muc Off Bike Spray (not the pink shite). It will clean any surface, just put a little on a cloth. I had some marks on the Matt paint on the Triumph, and wondered what would shift it without wrecking the paint, and this stuff did the trick.:thumb

Be very careful using Muc Off.....I used it on my '06 Gsa and it sent my black wheels 'milky'!!! I never did manage to clean it back to the original finish despite using every cleaner known to man afterwards! :blast

Yes only leave these sprays on your bike for up to 2 mins otherwise it eats into your paint and ruins the finish.
