I recently fitted a set of touratech fog lights to my GS.I wired them as instructed(i think).Anyway i don't know if i am imagining things ,but while sitting on the bike with engine running and helmet off I noticed i could hear the fuel pump above the sound of the engine.I hadn't noticed this before. The sound of the pump got louder as i switched the fogs on , and decreased when switched off .The bike seems to be driving fine but im anxious about the pump,is this normal or is it a sign the pump might be about to give up the ghost:confused:

Haven't seen the T/T fitting instructions - but where did/do they take the power from

The power is taken from the blue/grey cable coming from the small black box which is situated below the large clear coloured juntion box on the right hand side of the bike as you look forward from the sitting position. This is how I have fitted it. The instructions also say that if you have a bike with double ignition and without lightswitch you should connect to the yellow/white cable of the left low beam headlightThe connecting of the fog lights might have nothing to do with this problem if it is a problem!I know that when you switch the ignition on and centre the kill switch you hear the pump motorising for approx one second, then it stops.I m just wondering is it normal to hear the fuel pump when the engine is running.

Thanks

Could be just a coincidence. You don't say which model you have but GS's fuel pump are known to be noisy. Mine is louder than the Remus. Maybe, by chance, it became loud just after fitting the lights.
Or, I would check the consuption of those lights. The alternator and battery barely supply juice for the standard equipment. Any added item to the system may cause overloading...

Thanks for the reply. Its an R1150 GS,My fuel pump not that loud!sounds like i have nothing to worry about, I hope.I was thinking of changing the battery to something beefier, surely the altenater is up to the job. :(

It maybe that the sound is now reflected by the lights back to you. So you hear more of the pump sound now.

The pump sound may well change with battery voltage - and battery voltage will change with the load on the battery/alternator eg your new lights.
