Its the second GS of our members in Italy (www.quellidellelica.com) that catches fire!

We know the problem is in the holders on the petrol pipes that go from the tank to the injectors. My surprise is in knowing that we first had this issue in 2001 and the last byke on fire was bought in September 2003. Like to say that BMW didn't fix the problem. At least here in Italy. My question is: any such issue in the UK? Any of you had the licking petrol problem from the pipes?

Thank you

I believe there is a recall for the seals on the fuel quick release connectors, my bike at the moment is in Williams Manchester for some warrantee work, when I checked about the recall, they all ready had it listed on there work sheet.

Asked about recall when mine was in Wednesday for 600 mile service. Apparently the benzine used as octane enhancer in unleaded degrades the rubber "O" ring seal in the connectors. BMW have new part no. for the replacements which could be Viton rubber or similar which is highly resistant to a wide range of chemicals. Appears to be done as part of PDI or 1st service in UK.

I am sitting in Tbilisi, Georgia and did have some petrol leaking the other week before I started the bike. Could one of you technical wizards please explain what I need to do as I am two days ride from nearest delear and wasn't planning to go there for a few months. Bike is 2002 Adventure.
Thanks in advance.

Scipio,
Are you talking about the metal clips that hold the fuel pipes to the injectors, if so mine came off about a year ago fuel all over the place, I now have them held in place with small plastic tie wraps.

Exactly !!!

I did the same thing and now have no more problems, but at my next service I will point out the recall issue you have in the UK.

I tought the problem was the metal clip.

Thanks for your help.
