Hi All
I am by my own admission, not too skilled, more an enthusiastic amateur, typically riding when dry / commuting agian when dry. I run a Vario top box heavily loaded most of the time, with laptop / heavy chain etc. This makes the bike is very prone to attempt lift its front wheel, I love the way the bike compensates for my ham fisted riding by controlling the throttle, its the most user freindly 'big bike' I have owned & a pleasure to ride. Despite its many critics this forum, most of whom cant afford to own one from what I can make out? its one of the best machines out there

Always keep your foot hovering over the back brake ! (Just in case !)
It seems the electronics have differing "wheel lift" tolerances .
In dynamic it comes up higher and more readily than "road"

Hi Guys

Just ordered a TB ADV for September, my first.
Just coming off a RTLC, so the question is can you turn off the traction control to pull wheelies on these bikes ?

If you don't take a pillion passenger and you're still fit enough and have enough movement in your hips to hurdle onto the bike, the BMW Luggage Plate which replaces the pillion seat might be a good addition. It allows you to fit the Vario top box in place of the pillion seat. That would improve the handling and lessen the tendency for the bike to pull wheelies.

Yep, turn off the TC, then enjoy.:thumb

Stick it in Dynamic mode, and you'll notice that with the TC off, it's a different animal, performing at its very best (until you wheelie it into the back of a car!:P).:green gri

That's got to be one seriously heavy laptop to cause unplanned wheelies...:augie

My RD350 does unplanned wheelies do you think a shopping basket on the front will be better for my shopping than a top box ?

Of course it's one of the best bikes out there, undeniably , but it's not the only bike out there and some people like a change . That "just because you can't afford one " line is such a load of tosh. How do you know what others can and cannot afford. I , for one, could go out and buy one (or two for that matter) new GSs tomorrow BUT I don't get to use my bike much nowadays and I don't really want that much cash tied up in a toy. If , like in the past, it was my main form of transport too then not such a problem.

Anyhow, in the modern age of PCP almost anybody can afford a GS. In fact most of the guys on here who use that line of yours don't actually own a GS either , they just rent one.:thumb

Agreed in principle, though mine is just a toy, I would buy outright / own or not bother myself. My issue is with the keyboard warriors who spout on about what they quite clearly don't know about, usually because they have never owned one in the first place. The bike is not perfect - plenty of character to enjoy though! Not sure what I would swap mine for at the moment Probably keep her & try a Daivel S on for my next purchase?

I too prefer to own my bikes, no PCP or finance thanks . My next bike will be either an Africa Twin , Diavel Strada or MV Tourismo Veloce but it would be a yr or so and a used one 18 to 24 mths old. I'll happily let someone else run it in for me, take the early hit in depreciation and add a few extras on for me too :thumb

A word of caution - great idea in principle and I ordered a luggage plate with the bike when new, fitted it, went for a spin, but found the top box kept banging into my back on a bumpy road. So I took it off. Shame...

You could Fit a back rest to the top box ?

I had a Corbin seat on my 1100Gs with a rider back rest and it was brilliant . A bit of knack getting on and off but when riding along the back rest was great , especially when giving it the berries.

bought a set of Vario panniers - might be less back end heavy as not as far behind the rear wheel?

Absolutely, if it appreciates, buy it. If it depreciates, lease it.

Daft question maybe.....does this, allow you to fit another box on the rack in the normal position, or do you have to remove the rear rack to fit this plate? Thanks.

You have to switch the tc off to wheelie the bike. The front will lift with tc on but I wouldn't really call them wheelies......
