GS to Caponord & loving it again

Capo Crapo

Vilguy,
Another GSer who hates those Caops,
Just had a years trouble free motoring after replacing the reg/rec and clocks last year.
What a machine, and mine is standard apart from a Givi screen and 3 holes drilled in the exhaust baffle for a more free-breathing effect;-)
Pat.

i just put a sit of leovince x3 cans & link pipes on mine. It saved 5 kilos in weight and ... well lets just say its a little bit loud..My boss refused to MOT it because its so loud hahaha.

I too have put the givi screen on and its much better, i got a little headlight protector too but the force of the wind on it has pushed it against the headilght and then as its moved around its scratched it a little.

Ive put a set of hepco & becker gobi panniers on it, and i got hyperpro progessive springs, and fork catridge emulator kit for the front off captain capo. Means ive got adjustable front forks.. yay!

Still got to slip that falco engine in it yet... they're all saying dont do it... but what do they know!

If you need use of an axone machine let me know. Ive got one now :D

Ive got a clean set of forks going on ebay shortly if your interested....

I bought a new pre-cat Caponord in 2003 but only kept it for around 8 months before swapping back to a VFR.

The engine was quick (GPS verified 139mph on the flat) and it was very comfy, but the brakes were rubbish, it didn't handle and the windroar from the screen was deafening (even a Givi screen + winglets didn't help).

If you like plodding around, then they're a bargain, but they're scary in the twisties if you like to make progress

I never said that the Capo was the worst bike ever (it isn't).

However, the 2000/2001 model VFR800FiY/1 is widely acknowledged as being one of the best allrounders ever built and is vastly superior to a Caponord in all areas except comfort/riding position. The only criticism levelled at it is that it's too bland (or too perfect ;) ) and underpowered nowadays, but I loved the V4 engine. Can't wait to test ride the new 1200.

This isn't based on a quick testride, but around 6000 miles on the Capo and 50,000 miles on VFR's.

Sadly Honda lost the plot with the early VTEC engine, which is why I bought a K1200S instead :bow

vfrs are shit. ive had 3! 2 x 750s and 1 x 800

boring and slow. Sorry but as soon as i bought em i flogged em back on. Sure they are a good commuter, but also extremely flawed.

Good at lots of things, great at nowt :rob

of course this is just my personal opinion. But if you want a proper bike, buy italian ;)
