GS to GSA Shocks

If I change my standard GS shocks for GSA shocks I know the bike will sit higher.

What effect will this have on the centre stand and also the front forks?

Has anyone done this.

The only reason I am considering it is because GSA shocks come up on EBay far more than standard shocks and I really do need to change my shocks.

Assuming this is for the 1150 (my experience).
Raises the bike by @20mm.
Centre stand no longer lifts a wheel off the ground, bike can roll off it easily. (not good) - remedy, fit gsa main stand, just be aware that the spring mounting points between the 2 stands are different. GSA springs are shorter. Use GS springs and the stand won't retract.
Side stand, obviously, the lean angle is greater. I have not changed mine.
Don't know if the drive shaft angle is adversly affected.

Yep its a 1150 and the bit above is the unkown factor.

I have run GSA rear for about 20,000 no issues, but I have noted that my pre GSA shock bottoming impacts have distorted the rear subframe mount slightly so the GS centre stand keeps the wheel say 5mm off ground maybe get a press on it Oh yes, this is high speed gravel road impacts not anything available in the UK, up to 100MPH down the gravel and then a suprise

So your saying a GSA rear shock will still allow me to use the centre stand?

How does it feel like riding? I probably do need to do both shocks.

Yes both changed, both wheels still on the ground, using GS centre stand there is no effort involved. Also no effort to roll forwards either. - GSA stands come up often on the bay though usually 20-30 gbp.

Did the reverse of what you're proposing (ie GSA to GS) and replaced both shocks, centre and side stands which works well. Would think you need both centre and sidestand to make it right.

I am only going to do it if I get a pair of GSA shocks at a good price. Otherwise I am going to hold out for pair of GS shocks.

Depends how long it takes me to get fed up of bouncing along the road like zebedee!!!!

Have you thought about refurbing the rear one?

I need to do something about mine and am between finding a second hand aftermarket rear or refurbing it.

I have thought about refurbing the rear. I guess it will cost over £200 to do both so I am searching EBay to see if I can get some low mileage ones cheaper. If there was somewhere near to me where I could just drive down with the old shocks and hand them over then get them back the next week I would get it done now. Price has to be around the £200 mark for the pair. Maybe I am expecting too much. One company on the South Coast quoted me £200 for the rear. At that price add £50 and you can pick a new one up on Ebay.

So I wait and I bounce ........................................

I'm putting a rear adventure shock on my gs hopefully tomorrow, I'll tell you how I get on, if u need a shock to rebuild I'll have one, 88 pound at firefox for a complete recon

I've phoned them up, they can re-valve and respring, but they said its not worth it, they said post it to them 88 including return postage, only takes s couple of days, I've just bought an adventure rear shock, I use the bike for work everyday, so can't really take it off the road, if the worst comes to the worse and it fucks the handling up I'll just try and get a matching front shock or get the original rebuilt, hopefully....

Firefox is based in that most pleasant town of Keighley - had my Ohlins serviced by them with no problems. Very good company with excellent knowledge/service (That reminds me - time to get 'em done again over winter).

It would be a good idea to check the bottom shock mounting bolt if it's bottoming, they can snap without you knowing it

Trust me I know, broke one 100 miles from home, rode back with a 10mm Allen Key and duct tape holding everything in place

Unusually, an extractor worked

Have not bottomed it with current setup, refurbished ADV shock with Hyperpro progressive springs, but its a bit hard

Just double check they can do the front. Apparently there's a few different versions. Mine is welded at the bottom and I've read that means it can't be refurbed. Happy to be proven wrong though!
