GS to GSA Shocks

Just double check they can do the front. Apparently there's a few different versions. Mine is welded at the bottom and I've read that means it can't be refurbed. Happy to be proven wrong though!

Ok will do. As long as nothing breaks before hand I shall be whipping the wheels off to get new tyres next month and do the shocks at the same time. Must remember to run the fuel low so the tanks not so heavy this time.

For your info. I spoke to Firefox today who informed me that they couldn't service my front shock although the rear is okay to work on. Reason they couldn't do the front is that there are 2 different types of front shock, a cheap one and a good one. I have the cheap one. They say they have cleaned it up and its ok. I guess the good one is on the GSA.

Can't wait to get them back and hopefully get the bike back out on the road this weekend.

So how long is the difference between a GS and GSA front shock? Is it 20 mm also?

No the shocks are not 20mm longer only about 10mm due to the length of the swing arm/ telelever and the connection points the ratio lifts the Bike by 20mm:beer:

Thanks for the update! I guess mine is the cheap one as well as it is the sort that can't be worked on.

Would be interested to hear how much of a difference you think the refurb makes on the back :thumb

Firefox have rebuilt my rear twice now. The bike feels like new when it comes back. Getting the front done this winter. Beware, they fit a valve to the shock body that needs a little hack-saw adjustment to the top mount but nothing major.

Just got them back and going to fit them tomorrow. No little valve on the shock body that I can see. Just a small flat plate that is raised about 1mm so hopefully the frame shouldn't need altering.

I can understand why the front shock wasn't serviced. Its a very small affair and even appears to have a piece of cork in the middle of it. It looks quite basic and primitive.

Well just fitted and tested the shock and what a difference. Just like new! Bike is nice and firm now when at rest and on the move it doesn't feel like a pogo stick anymore.

I see a new shock is over a $1000 on the net so its got to be worth having it serviced.

Next thing to do will be to service the front forks. Anyone got a link to a fork service kit?
