GS trounced by KTM

My son works at a KTM dealer - And from what i hear, I'll be sticking with the GS. :D ;)

...all i know is the HP2 is faster than the KTM Super Enduro R . Who gives a toss about reliability knowing that :hapybnce:
 
The answer as to why it came 61st is simple.
The majority of the bikes are that problem free (or we don't give a feck) that we are all out riding them rather than filling in silly forms. :D

I swapped my Kalahari 1100 for a 12 earlier this year and yes the finish is poor but I ride all year and once it's muddy you can't see it anyway!

Makes me laugh though because don't they sing the 1200's praises for being a great all rounder a few pages later?

Went down my first proper off road track on Sunday. Curiosity got the better of a mate on his TDM and little me as we'd passed a gravel track a few times while out and about.
Half way down we discovered that it was more of a dried up river with mud and rocks. Oh my gosh! Gonna get some knobblies!!! :bounce1
Had to bore someone with that. Probably like a smooth tarmac road to some of you but it was a biggie for us.

Exactly!

BTW, I don't bother with bike mags after one month's issue the GS is the best alrounder ever, the 4th best cornering bike of all time, then next month it's not that good cos someone stuck a gel pad on the KTM saddle. The same issue has KTM down as the number 1 "up and coming" bike manufacturer. Considering it was a well established bike giant compared with the other 4 it mentioned, it looked a bit suspisious.
 
:clap Just completed another trip on my 05 GS. Skye Inverness etc and back to Surrey 1500 mls all weathers! Company ? two K1200 S bikes was I left behind ?was I Hell! Problems in 20,000 miles ? None! Bring 'em on! Whilst the adrenalin still flows. KTM and GS ? they are just different tools at the end of the day.
 
Hmmm - Tried a KTM - didn't rate the comfort. Tried the 1150GS and rated the comfort and handling - love it. In fact I love riding it. Just a huge shame it keeps needing repair - at three years old. I have also heard a couple of tales from guys with 1200GSs - all rather fragile. I'm awaiting a response from a letter I sent to BMW (about the poor reliability and less than impressive service from my local dealer). If interesting I may post here.
 
I always take these RiDE power surveys with a pinch of salt.

I don't know, but they have to apply some sort of modifier to take into account the number of surveys returned?

If there are 100 KTM owners who reply to the survey and 1000 GS owners, you are gonna get a dilution of the opinion, just cos of the volumn of surveys. if 5 KTM owners slate the bike thats 5% of the owners, to get the same percentage of GS owners, that would be 50. The same must be true the other way around i.e. we love the bike!

So, in a nutshell, I really don't know what I'm saying, but it sounded good when I first thought of it.

Well my view on it is.. I love my 1150GS.. tis great.. and howmany KTM's do you see being ridden on RTW trips anyway??

I've never seen any. But then, I've never been on a round the world trip ;)

I'm about to rollover 60,000 miles in two years on the 950.
Not substantial by any means, but that's still around 3 3/4 laps :D
 
Not,that anybody here will believe it,'cos a KTM couldn't possibly be better than a BM,but KTM seems to be doing rather well in the mags at the mo.

The real answer will be with us when KTM520 & I meet in Wales later this month....until then who knows :rolleyes:

We could extend this debate to include the GS 650 Dakar and the KTM 640.

To my mind the KTM wins hands down. :clap
