In the market to add a second hand GS to the stable ( already have a K1200RS which I love too much to sell ). I was looking to spend about £ 7.5 K and had been thinking about a '05 or '06 model but am concerned problems have heard with servo brakes and other probs on these years.

If I spend the extra on an early '07 model how can I be sure I'm not buying a late registered '06 model - how can you tell the difference. I knows there's no servo on the '07 models so how do you spot that.

A bike fitted with the servo version of the ABS will give a whirr when the ignition is turned on as the servos pressurize, the no servo version wont whirr.

Technical terms are my forte :aidan

tis true. I've got a late reg 06 model in 07 spec (nite black colour) and it has servos. When you turn the ignition on, you get the usual electricy sounding 'whir' that tells you your potential death trap is now functioning.

Either way though, get a black one, best colour imho. Looks specialy good with the vario luggage as its the only colour that looks fully colour coded.

I loiks black

I don't know why some people bang on about the servos. I have an '05 model and I love the powerful feel available everytime. I've not had any problems either and lets face it, every car has 'em too. But then, most bikers only 'think' they are at the cutting edge of motorized design.

Saying all that, BMW did away with them for reasons probably known only to themselves (or loads of complaints from luddites :D ).

They almost certainly got rid of them because: (i) they are totally unnecessary, (ii) expensive to service, (iii) disliked by many customers, (iv) often went wrong, (v) become a liability rather than an asset :D

You're getting reeeealy boring. :aidan

I was actually only joking about my potential death traps. I really like the brakes on mine, and wouldn't want to lose the servos. I have enough confidence that if they were that much of a hazzard they would issue a recall. For what its worth, I've know a good few people with 'servo death trap' GS's that have had absoloutely no problems whatsoever, including me.

Of course this message will mean nothing tomorrow if I'm found embedded in the back of a car:)

go for later 07 modle,
less chance of a fekd gearbox :blast

servo

mine is a april 06 now done 40K had no problem with the servo will miss it on the next one especially on my 110 mile commute round "the road to hell!"

GS's

Dont confuse the "whirr" with the fuel pump starting up, just try the front brake lever with out the enging running or ingition sawitched on. Should come a long way back and have no "feel".
Dave (get an 1150, yellow ones are best) GS.

Would have thought that might stretch to a private sale 07.
The visible difference between the servo and non servo ABS is the shape of the grooves in the ABS ring. Forget which way round it is, but one is square and the other rectangular.
