GS with TKC80's

ha ha, its got a couple of knobbles left on the outside. Well hopefully i can nurse them till end of june then nice new will be on for the Hograost.

Likewise, my Tourances are coming off at the end of June and TKC's being fitted in preparation.:thumb

My main concern with TKCs is the speed rating. Are there any equivalents that have a more sensible (!) rating? Not particularly bothered about wear rates - I get 4,000/8,000 out of rear/front Annakees (how does anyone get 12,000 miles out of a rear tyre, other than by pushing the bike everywhere?).

Thanks

Dave

They're good for a Ton Dave, do you really want to go any faster on Knobblies??:nenau

The way Horse and a couple of fellow local riders use their GSA's with TKC's fitted has convinced me they are more than good enough for road use.:augie

Ive run TKC`s for the last 35000 miles and get about 4500 to a rear and about 6000 to a front.

And ignore what folk say about them being death traps on the road and in the wet.:thumb2

Seconded - 100%

TKC`s are the way to go. I regular push them past the speed rating, ok they dont hold a bend as good as a road bias tyre, but on a dry road i would give them just as good thrashing, (once you understand them) as any road tyre on a heavy gsa.:thumb2

Just about to change my TKC 80s after 10,000 miles.

How does one do it? Well I'm a girl, so there may be a lighter weight issue :augie 90% of the time I only carry me with no gear. I am fairly light handed on the throttle :augie

But after this weekend my bike no longer needs a side stand to keep it upright:thumb

The biggest "grip" factor here in Turkey is the road surfaces, rather than tyre grip itself. When I first fitted TKCs I was very wary of them slipping even more than a Tourance would, but to my surprise I found there was little difference between them. Okay, in the wet it's a different story, but then no tyre offers much grip on wet roads here. I'm finding the wear rate acceptable and other than the first hundred km's or so of getting used to them, the handling's feeling fine too. Where they really stand out for me is with my confidence in taking the bike off road. Whether it's purely psychological or not I don't know, or care about, but I'm no longer scared faecesless at the prospect of some dirt.

I'll be replacing them with another set when the time comes.

Annette im amazed someone could get 10,000 out of a tkc. Is that a rear or front. I could understand a front, but my tkc rear was as is pretty much knackered at 3500miles, no im not some 20 stone fella. But am a bit throttle happy:augie:D.
Well done you:thumb2

Both tyres went on at the same time and both now need replacing. Must be all that riding in the rain through the winter..........obviously don't wear as much on wet roads :thumb:thumb

Maybe I just got lucky, but I generally average about 10,000 whateve tyre I use. However, I won't be putting TKC 80s back on as I will be doing very little offroad for the rest of the year. You do get much more vibration with the TKCs at higher speeds which are particularly noticeable on European motorways.

exp's

Planning a trip to morocco for next year and have been wondering about this topic.....

I am obviously not your usual pipe and slippers gs rider as im only getting 5000 rear and 8500 front out of a pair of tourance exp's.....

What do you think i'll get on knobblies.....?

I have been riding tkc80's for a couple of months now and they have taken me to places that I wouldn't dare on my tourances.
I actually love their dry cornering because they feel tremendously sticky. As for speed rating, I don't do 100mph and they have slowed my bike loads and taken power off the engine for sure. The bike noticeably doesn't roll as easy and this is evident when pushing the bike, but I still love them !:D
