The biggest "grip" factor here in Turkey is the road surfaces, rather than tyre grip itself. When I first fitted TKCs I was very wary of them slipping even more than a Tourance would, but to my surprise I found there was little difference between them. Okay, in the wet it's a different story, but then no tyre offers much grip on wet roads here. I'm finding the wear rate acceptable and other than the first hundred km's or so of getting used to them, the handling's feeling fine too. Where they really stand out for me is with my confidence in taking the bike off road. Whether it's purely psychological or not I don't know, or care about, but I'm no longer scared faecesless at the prospect of some dirt.
I'll be replacing them with another set when the time comes.
