GS1100 Buffeting

After a search and lengthy reading session...the jury is still out.

I have a 98 GS 1100 with (I think) a standard screen and a TT spoiler on top, I am 5' 7" on a good day. I have bad wind noise and buffeting to upper body, shoulders and helmet at speeds of 60+ mph..after 30 mile of it i really have had enough. From the search it would appear that tobinators are possibly the best although there are some complaints about them. Also it is a damn expensive option (especially if it does not work) and whilst I have yet to see a decent picture of the final fitting 'head on' it would appear ugly as feck because the 1150/ADV screen does not match the profile of the 1100 head light.

Has anybody got any pictures of the 1100 with torbinators or any other working solutions to this buffeting and noise.

Cheers

5 words: buy the MRA (=Wunderlich) Varioscreen.

Adjust to your ride height. Sorted. :thumb

I do 70-80mph all day long with it, w/o any eardrops etc. Top piece'o'kit.

I've tried standard screen with Touratech extension, and Adv screen with and without Touratech extension and with and without Tobinators. The best so far has been Adv screen with Tobinators and Touratech extension, but it all looks bloody ugly and it wasn't cheap. And it's not 100%, I still get high speed buffetinng and the screen's too tall really.

Gonna try an MRA Vario next.

Yep m8s, MRA Vario is the best! Looks good too imho :thumb

Oh... I posted a wrong pic. Sorry m8s. But anyways, you get the idea what the screen is - it gots two layers :)

Try tilting the standard screen right back (not forward) :thumb

yes it is amazing what a difference even the smallest adjustment can make!

I did 2500 miles around europe and suffered, oh boy was it a real pain!

on my return, just happened to be in garage looking at bike and thought, why not try tilting the screen back, found that it was pretty well right back against the stops anyway, but managed a couple of mil extra, went out and tried it, and it was 100% better!!!!

then proceeded to rant and rave because I could easily have done this before the trip!!!:o

Buffetting

Answer, buy my K1100LT. absolutly weather proof, adjustable screen. comfortable seat, wind it up and go. Sounds so good I think I'll keep it.

My wife bought me an MRA vario screen from Motorworks (see banner at the top of this page). I have tried tilting the std. 850/1100 screen forward, back, up and down and any combination of that which only served to put doubt in my mind in my choice of riding a GS.
Nothing has changed the riding experience more than the MRA screen I still get some wind noise but little or no buffeting. Yes I know its £120 Inc postage, but for me it was cheaper than realising the depreciation that has occurred in 18 months of gs ownership.
I am now very happy with my 850gs and understand, at last why so many other people on this site are with there GSs.
If you buy the screen and don’t like it I'm sure someone on this site will bite your hand off to relieve you of it.

Maybe it's like the buffeting experienced when approaching the sound barrier. You're bike must be quicker than mine :D :D

I had a Vario but changed to adventure screen with TT extender on my 1150 Works fine for me. The only way is to keep trying till you find the solution for you. What works for some might be totally wrong for you. The vario screen is good but I find the tint removes alot of your view of the road.

Of course the 1100 is quicker than your lard arse 1150  :D :D

According to the MRA web site it is available clear....it's no good to me otherwise!
