My clutch started slipping today at high revs not sure if it is contaminated or worn out 43,000 miles on the clock funny how it coincided with me fitting the Laser exhaust that came with it when i bought it with 5,000 miles on the clock also chipped for laser, took it off when i bought it because it was too loud but today i thought i would see how it went with it on goes like a rocket
but clutch started slipping about 6000 rev for 2 seconds and started to grip again
It's allway serviced at Rainbow, just wondered if anyone knows how much a main dealer charges ?

when you get over the shock of main dealer prices matey... give Pleasley motorcycles a ring on tuesday... just down the road from you. main man has an 1150 and knows his stuff. one man band too... so you know the works been done by him and not some apprentice. :thumb

I forgot about Pleasley Motorcycles, cheers:thumb2

Did the dealer DEFINETLY check it for adjustment or did they do the usual menu service ie,only checked if the service interval says so.
It can be a bit fiddly to do.
Main dealer clutch replace costs about £800:eek:

Hiya Gary, complete clutch assembley costs about £170.
I was quoted £750 from Rainbow, 2 1/2 years ago.
Do it yourself and save a packet, its a bit fiddly but not difficult and there are plenty of posts on here about doing it.:thumb

Hey up
I did mine a few years back
Swapped it all and all that mended some bits along the way/while I was at it

Found the bearing on the clutch arm seized and stiff with it
Check yours is free and easy to operate or the resistance can help the clutch
to slip - it slows the return of the arm to its "out" position

HTHY :thumb2

Hey up Mick do you fancy doing mine, it's Gary (Lols mate) i see you in the Donkey Derby and on the Moor

Not for free i will pay

Well i did a search earlier and someone had the same problem, he sprayed the clutch release lever at the back of the gearbox with WD and it cured his slipping clutch, so tonight i emptied half a tin of WD went for a 20 mile ride giving it a fistfull at 4000 revs where it was slipping yesterday, couldn't get it to slip once, one more thing if the clutch was worn would it star to grab just before the end of the clutch lever travel because mine starts to grab about half way

The biting point on an 1100 is adjustable with a combination of the handlebar lever and the pushrod adjusting bolt on the rear of the gearbox.
So any advice about "biting points" from anyone else is a bit pointless.

when you go to sort it out just take the swinging arm off unless youve got a friendly octupus to help the bolt will not go back in.Once you have stressed the actuator arm like that they tend to snap as they are made of alli,I woulc replace that too cheers

If it keeps slipping i'll get it done professionally don't fancy trying it myself

Just a quick nose in...

Once you have stressed the actuator arm like that they tend to snap as they are made of ali,I would replace that too cheers

Take note; mine snapped last year, bit of a pain when you have six sets of traffic lights to negotiate to get home...

Dave.
