Evening all,

I have decided I'm going to get a gs1150a, I just wanted a few of the main tips on what to check, other than abs & corrosion points, oh service record, that are potential pitfalls in buying one of these rather lovely machines.
So thank you for any good hints, derisive comments or, general p*ss taking, as I expect to get some...:thumb2

Haha, excuse me exposing my ignorance, I shall not edit it as it proves me the BMW newby that I am, well, I did have an old r80/7 years ago, & rather liked it!:blast:)

You can't rely check the servo abs, it's prone to fail randomly at any time. Single spark abs is ok though and pretty reliable.

Tip - try not to leer at the guys who have paid 4x more for 1/2 the bike...ah sure leer a bit but try not to let it be too obvious...

Worth putting a new battery in to avoid issues related to volt dip at starting, which cause ABS not to set and leaves you with flashing abs warning lights. Motobatt cheaper than Odyssey and seems to be nearly as good. I don't use trickle charger, it just hides a shagged battery.

Watch rear brake pad wear, easy to fit new pads and saves shagged disc, damhik...

Great toolkit under back seat, check it is there.

Replace throttle cables if stiff, lube makes them worse.

Buying 1150

The 1150 has a proven record very robust
Also very heavy but once moving the smile factor just appears
Lots for sale some with high mileage don't be put off by that
Personally I want to see clean bikes that have been over looked after
Non dealer serviced wouldn't bother me
Some really excellent mechanics on here who really do look after them
Best advice buy from this site
They keep coming up with extras and genuine owners
Good luck :thumb

I'm getting some great tips here, thank you, I really appreciate it.

I am going to get a test ride, but I'm convinced the bike is going to do what I want it to, namely put a big smile on my face, comfortably carry me & the loved one with luggage for a wet weekend now & then, & go pick her up to save a 100 mile round trip in the car when motorway traffic is looking bad on the M25, ( we don't yet live together, but by god she is working on it!).
