My gs1150 (2003) has a remus can fitted, this weekend I fitted my std gs plastic panniers, it seems that the Remus can touches the pannier, is there any adjustment on either the Pannier or the can to give a gap.

I have ordered a heat shield from motoworks, but I think this is only a sticky back foil sheet.
(Will this be enough to stop meltdown !)
Im due a trip in the Pecos and I don't want a melted pannier !!!

ANY ADVISE /or ANYONE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM ??

Cheers
Bob.

The can has only a one bolt mounting point to the sub-frame.
Can you use a washer or two, maybe an extra long bolt to push the can away from the pannier.
Or put the OEM can back on for the trip.

I asked a very similar question not so long ago as just fitted the Remus and was concerned for my Hepco & Becker Gobi Pans. Advised to get the heatshield stuff or at least the heat deflector exender peice which I did happen to order at the same time, will fit before the Wales trip.
I was told also that the foil back stuff can be purchased from a plumbing centre as its simillar if not the same that you can place behind your radiators.
Was up at CW a wk ago and a guy up there had a Remus and the beamer panniers and I seen how close it was so asked if it was ok, he said his was fine but think he had the heat stuff inside his pannier on the inside wall :thumb2

I have 02 1150GS with remus and BMW touring panniers no heat shield and they are fine, Didnt even make the meths I carried in that pannier explode! So must be OK

remus

Thanks for the info, just wanted to know really 'why the meths' in your panniers, was this a quick totty when the cold set in ?

Bob slacken the bolt at the front of the can and at the mount and you can then once you've wiggled it about a bit you can rotate the remus a bit thus moviing it away from the panniers and then tighten the front bolt and then the mount bolt!

Bob ,
If you have a Y piece fitted , then you Will have a Problem.
The Foil you mention is Useless.
You can move the Zost away from the Bag by using spacers .
The Stainless deflectors is the ONLY way to go.

Got standard can and ally boxes - even the standard pipe burns the paint on the box . Good for kudos though - meths carried? I bet he is a Trangia user. Best bit of camping cookery kit you can get - I got a copy from Lidl for £8 last year which is absolutely brilliant, but it is a tad larger. My Trangia was bought in 1980. Still going strong.

What Jaythro said:thumb2

If the silencer is touching the pannier, then it's not fitted right. There should be at least 1/2" clearance.

I never had any trouble with Remus + Y-piece heating/burning the pannier.
