What is the difference in seat height please. I have heard 33inch v 36inch - is this correct?

There's just over an inch difference....If the ADV had a 36" seat height I'd need stilts

The standard 1150 has a high/low setting also....the ADV is non adjustable, but plenty of low seats knocking around :thumb

Or if you have a 1150Adv, you can always swap the twin seat set-up from a conventional 1150GS to lower the seat height

This doesn't seem likely to me  The Adventure has a higher seat (relative to the footrests) as well as taller suspension - surely that equates to more than an inch difference in seat height?

The R1150GS Adventure featured a number of differences over the standard bike to make it more suitable for overland and adventure travel. These included an optional 30-litre (6.6 imp gal; 7.9 US gal) fuel tank, larger screen, single-piece seat, 20 millimetres (0.8 in) taller suspension front and rear, lower first gear and a conventional sixth gear in place of the standard model's overdrive gear. Common options on both models were heated handgrips and ABS brakes.

With a (nearly) 30" inside leg the standard bike seems better for me on the high setting....

Meanwhile the adventure seat is fine Two-up but a little tall unladen... so I had an inch taken out of the seat foam... now its fine...:thumb

Sure, 20mm in the suspension, how much in the seat? I've sat on an Adventure and it seemed way more than 20mm higher than my standard GS.

Same for me - 30" inside leg but the low seat position makes it too cramped for my knees so I have it on high. Last time someone else did some work on it he put the seat back in the low position (I guess he'd clocked my height....) and it felt as if I was on a different bike.

I've heard that a standard gs seat height is 840mm - 860mm with the adjustable seat. and adv is taller again around 890mm. Best to check MCN bike reviews as they give the seat heights for bikes on the reviews. My gs is 860mm seat height and i've a 29" inside leg. Great bike:aidan

Sproggy you are correct to be sceptical, on my GSA the seat height is indeed 36" or 900mm in modern money :-)

Wiki-fuckin-pedia my arse......

Just saw this and am looking for a low seat for my 1150GSA. I had thought the seats for the GS & GSA were NOT interchangable. I'm wrong ?

If anyone has a low seat ....... please PM me .

Not interchangable, but you can fit the standard seats by changing all the components over. Locks, rear rack etc

Once all these bits are changed you can then fit the standard seats which will give you a greater choice of seating options to suit.

If you are struggling with the height, you can also consider swapping to standard shocks and stands which would allow you to keep the Adv seat/ rear rack etc.

Good luck

Best advice it to buy a Corbin Single seat for your 1150GSA, it is about 33" for the new seat height................plus better comfort

I just got one and can flat foot, with bent knees with it fitted..............bum to footpeg angle has been compromised though:blast

Corbin seats don't suit everyone. nor do Sargents. Either can prove an expensive mistake. I would always start with an original seat and have that remade to suit. for less than a third the price.

If either turned up 2nd hand at a reasonable price then worth considering. but new?

Bit of a gamble.

I wanted a 'GSA' style seat for my 1100 and managed to grab an ebay bargain TT XXhigh sport seat. No way on earth would I have risked £370 on a new one. Though if you want a 'single piece' seat without the faffing required to fit a stock GSA seat.. thats the way to go.
