Interestin stuff...

Having the same prob with Coccyx that started this thread i too may now invest in the Airhawk. (I was considerin clip-ons but fear they will hit the tank when locking the steering !!):D

I probably ought to tell you that I went into a hospital in Istanbul for a cortisone injection last week as the pain was so bad.

The Air Hawk is brilliant - I doubt I'd have lasted more than a week without it - but, for me anyway, it's not a cure-all for a coccyx problem. I suspect it may be better if I could figure out how to tie off the centre cells at the back.

SWMBO says it makes the GS the most comfortable bike she's ever been on.

Im between devil & deep blue like you - bought more "relaxed/ upright" bike - better on knackered wrists, elbows, shoulders but boy the rear end is sufferin bad !!

Air Hawk for the Coccyx

Found the solution on the Roho website (manufacturer of Airhawk)

They do a "Toilet Seat Cushion" - no centre - looks just the ticket !

Now, will my bike pass the MOT with a Bog Seat fixed to the std seat ??????

I've just emailed Roho and I'll let you know what they say. I'm not sure how you'd fit the u-shaped cushion to the bike as it's a different size and shape to the 'cruiser' seats isn't it?

My FJR is far more comfortable for me to ride than the GS (I've had a hole put in the back of the seat and I put flat bars on) but it wouldn't have been much good on some of the roads we've been on on this trip which really needed some offroad capability; hence the GS.

I think I'm going to try flat bars when we get back and, if that doesn't work, I may reluctantly have to sell it on which is what I did with a KLR650 and Tiger for the same reason. It's a shame as it's a capable bike.

Matron used to have a thing in our old hospital called an " air-ring".

(Keeps extremes of pressure from upsetting the orbit of Uranus.)

She kept it locked up; reserved strictly for the patients who'd had their haemorrhoidectomies done on the private wing.

We naturally called the cupboard where she kept it: the 'airing cupboard'. Dan-nah!

Air Ring Alternative - DONT TRY THIS AT HOME !!

I saw the last posting & thought "Hey - i can achieve that with a Donut" - its now stuck to my Ass & the Dog is Snapping behind me everywhere i go

Roho said: "Sorry about your tail bone issues, but there really isn't anything that we can do for your cushion now. We are working on a design that will have a cutout, but this won't be available for at least 6 months."

RoHo Answer

Well Kev thats encouraging news for us !! I have ordered one anyway as cant possibly endure the summer rides as is !! One thing crossed my mind from memory - some old brit bikes had a cut out in the rider seat anyway to access a cap - oil i think from memory.

So we will just have to sell our modern steeds and & rumble & shake around the roads for evermore !! (and sawdust the drive regularly !!)

I will certainly be checking out Roho later in the year then - could be bliss for us !!

That would have been a Triton that had the recess in the seat , trouble is it was at the front of the seat with the oil tank filler underneath - great for heating up your danglies not a lot of use for your coccyx!

Just done 1365 miles around Ireland on my GS 1150, and always in agony after about an hour and a quarter, ruined the holiday, tried the "comfort seat" waste of money! never had any injury or problem on any any other bike, just put it down to BMW design, the bike will outlast your arse by a million miles! and still start first time every time! now decided to sell the bike. good luck
