Hello folks.
Winter is upon us and I have decided to not use my GSA, but to try a few mods to lower the seat height.
I know of a good chap who is able to loan me a pair of shocks which he removed from his new GS12 to fit some Maxton units.
I'm thinking of trying to fit them to my bike, but before I do, I thought I would ask if any person on this site had done similar.
If you have attemped this task, can you please share any information with me?
Thanks.
Timpo.

Fitted 1200 length Ohlins to mine. Leaving out the stuff that is obviously going to be different with Ohlins vs Showa;
Mechanically, it was a straight swap, with no problems. The bike is much more nimble than before, with turn-in a fair bit quicker. There are no clearence issues, but the lean angle on the sidestand can mean a bit more thinking ahead with parking. It is a bit harder to get on the center stand than with the Adv shocks, but no harder than my old 1200 was with the original type center stand.

HTH

No Problem with the rear but i found the front shock is a pain,
I had too take the tank panels off including filler cap , put a jack under the sump guard to raise the front then loosen the lower crash bars and compress the shock spring to get the ADV shock out :(

otherwise no issues apart from refitting the petrol cap seal

Tips...

I picked the shocks up earlier today so I may start in the morning.
Did you people fit GS12 shocks in replacement?
Any further info will be gratefully recieved.
Cheers.

Don't forget to take some before and after photographs. I forgot to do that when I swapped the stock GSA setup for lowered Wilbers. Would have been nice to compare but too late now.

Gawd you guys have money :D , I just got my old platform shoes out of the chpboard from the 70's so much more stylish :rob

Timpo, I'm sure you've seen them as well, but I thought I'd read a few posting here about how you are likely to get problems using the centre stand after as the GSA centre stand is longer than the GS one.

:nenau dunno, maybe I mis-read it

Even fully loaded, it's no harder to get on the center stand than the older 04/05 1200's (which was, admittedly, a bit of a pain). If it is an issue, standard 1200GS center stand was £95-ish when I priced it a couple of months ago. :thumb

My GSA is now lower than my previous 04GS. Considering that the C/S used to touch now and again on spirited rides on bumpy roads, I figured I would be at more risk on the GSA... so I'm going to remove it and use the Wunderlich track stand in the garage instead. The S/S has already been shortened and works a treat.
