I have heard that there may be a 1200 adv coming out in Sept/Oct 05. Can anyone throw some light on this please??????

The question of a 1200 Adventure has been around since the launch of the 12.

The most consistent reply seems to be that BMW have a five year model life policy.

2006 at the earliest!

No chance this year, more like 06-07.

There has been talk of a even skinnier, lighter, more powerful GS, very expensive with conventional forks(?) coming out end of year beginning of next.

But this aint a replacement Adventure as we know it today.

Maybe it will be like this

i've asked a BMW dealer and said that it will be out at Oct'05-Jan'06 ...

It is almost confirmed

This guy is one of the best selling BMW's in Europe :)

I asked at Mill last weekend. They said no plans for an Adventure version of the 1200 as yet. The GSA 1150 will be in production for another 2-3 years.

Seems odd to me, I'd have thought they'd be phasing the 1150 engine out quicker than that. Maybe given that there seems to be a significant % who prefer the 1150GSA over the 1200, they're covering both bases?

GSA 1200

In the past many companys...Honda,Yamaha etc have produced large off road Africa Twin type bikes.I started with a KLR600 and then went to a 650.
I could never understand why as differnt modals of these bikes came out they had to be ........lighter ,faster smaller in size and lower sear heights. The thing that seems to set these bikes and a good example of this is the 1150ADV is there size and there rugged looks and not how fast it can go from 0 to 60 or how much lighter then can make it.
To this point I found at first the looks of the new 1200 to be a the way that most of the off road bikes have gone in the past.
I pick up a new 1150ADV in March and still think the 1150 standard and ADV look and feel BMs best bike yet

Ready to be shot down in flames Stewart

Hi to you all. The new machine that'll be coming out as far as GS' is concerned is called R1200HP which is basically ahopped up GS with longer forks and more heavy duty eqpmt to counter the KTM's( I guess). No pix as of yet. This could well be the replacement for the Adv.

So which 1200 Adventure is it to be then .... ?

What would y'all want a 1200 Adventure to be ??

a) The 1200 engine in the existing Adventure chassis?

b) The 1200 with a few heavy duty suspension bits and a long nose?

c) A completely new chassis with the 1200 engine?

IMHO
Option a) evolves the design and retains the existing customer base.

If BMW is a production led, cost cutter it's likely to be b). I suspect it's not and it can't afford to be if it wants to stay in front. Not many existing Adve riders would go for this one, so are BMW going to disappoint its top end GS customers? Nah.

A complete makeover, c), resulting in a new and better bike powered by the upgraded 1250cc (!!) Adventure engine is probably what would impress the market most and keep the customers on board and attract more. This would best fll the order book!

1250/1300cc ?? This new 1200 engine can only be the starting platform for future developments, so 1200 is not the end-game. Plans must be in place to upgrade it over the product life cycle, even if no committment has yet been made to do so.
