Just taken the bike out after a few months laid up and I get the flashing brake failure message. Clearly the brakes are still functioning although not as well. I assume that it is the ABS component that is struggling. Any quick checks I can do? Unfortunately I'm off to the States tomorrow until mid June so I'll have to get it sorted when I get back but any thoughts would be gratefully received ..

You could check to make sure that the brake lever is not fouling against the handguard.

All clear, no grit or anything obvioius around the brake discs. I just wondered if there was a fuse for the system that blows ... the bike is all tucked up now until mid June but it would have been nice to know it wasn't a significant defect. At least it'll give me something to research whilst I'm away !

Hand guard just touching the brake lever, poor brake light contact or dodgy/blown bulb, dodgy front/rear brake switches.

Al the above need checking before you check anything more serious.

There are no fuses on the bike, just a clever 'ickle black box.

Run a search and you'll come up with lots of similar threads :thumb2

Thanks fellas, I'll do some digging and check all the above before I offer cash to the dealer .... about time I found my way around the bike ...

If you need a hand let me know. I've had my GS for a while, long enough to know most of its foibles anyway, and have plenty of tools.

I should get a GS911 diagnostic tool before too long so will eventually be able to read fault codes etc.
