Please could someone with real experience confirm that the functionality to use the wifi unit in Access Point mode allows access via a web browser to the full service functionality on a mobile device e.g. iPad?

We don't have windows PCs so if the above is not available it means I'd have to fork out for a laptop as well as the 911.

I've checked this forum and the 911 forum but it's still not fully clear.

tia.

I use mine via a iPhone & iPad if needed using the GS-911 app
Not sure if it's 100% of what you get if using via a laptop though.

I've only used it once or twice, but if I recall correctly, the wifi mode doesn't allow full access to all the functions. It's more for side-of-the-road diagnoses.

From what I can find on the web, there are two modes of operation;

D2D - Device to device which gives the basic functionality you have described.

AP - Access Point, where the 911 connects to a web server and you browse to a web page to give the same full functionality that you can get with a windows laptop.

D2D is intended for roadside use whereas the AP mode is the full workshop bifta.

I'm just trying to find out if this is correct before I go and buy one.

The GS-911 has inbuilt wifi, i.e. it is basically a self contained wifi source/hub. With my little Windows netbook I login to the GS911s wifi (not your home wifi). This gives full functionality such as resetting service dates, parking throttle bodies etc.

When using iPads, phones and Android devices (tablets, phones) you still search for the gs911 wifi signal and login to this. You are limited somewhat but can still see and clear faults, check sensor outputs and so on via a free app.
When using it like this you do not use up any of your 10 'lives' so can help others out.

You can use it with Mac as well as windows. I just use a small cheap secondhand netbook with Windows 7 and it's great.

Ah yes. I was mixing up D2D with AP. If you're not in a hurry, I can check tonight or tomorrow when I've time. I'll connect mine to the wifi network at home and see what functions I can access on my phone/iPad compared to the laptop.

For full functionality it has to be used with lap top.

That would be much appreciated - just to verify what Hexcode seem to claim on their website.

Worse than that in my experience where in cloud mode it wont recognise the XBCO module in my GS but works fine with the full app on my laptop

Will have a second hand laptop going cheap in a week or two if that is any use, fully functional, just been replaced by a Christmas present.

I'm a bit late coming back to this, but to confirm what Smug said, you do need a laptop for full functionality. When I go into the "Engine Functions" sections with my laptop, this is what I see:

From my phone, using the app in cloud mode, this is what I get:

And from the browser on my phone, in cloud mode:

As you can see, there are fewer options when I access it from the phone.
