I am considering buying a GS911 wifi for a couple of reasons :-

1. I intend to start doing my own servicing once the extended warranty period is up.

2. I am getting a bit tired of having to rely on dealers telling me that there are no displayed faults on my bike , when it does have faults

3. Just to have a mess about on the bike and find out what i can actually access.

Questions is for anyone who actually owns one and what can you really do with it, i have read the literature and will it do more than just clear service lights and fault codes.

I have the VCDS software for my cars and to be honest there is very little that you cannot do on VAG group cars and with it you get at least four complete updates on the software a year, also it can be downloaded onto any number of computers as the hardware is in the plug in unit .

I take it that the GS911 is the same with regular updates ?

Does it also allow the use of the device with a tablet and a laptop ?

Finally does anyone know for certain if BMW intend in the near future to go over to the internationally recognised OBD2 port format which would render a GS911 wifi obsolete for future bikes

I thought (perhaps wrongly?) that obd2 has been adopted for 2017?
Doesnt render the 911 useless though as you can get an adapter.

Partial answer:

You can use th wifi version with laptop for servicing. Limited functionality, including diagnostics is available on phone and ipad.

Updates are available and you can browse the nature of these on the GS-911 forum .

The Wi Fi version will do all the later LC versions and will use their cloud servers to give service functionality whilst mobile which was previously only available on Windows PC's.

From the web site;

GS-911wifi, designed by HEX Code, is the new generation diagnostic tool for BMW motorcycles. It is compatible with the latest generation of K001 chassis BMW motorcycles (K1600GT/GLT, R1200GS LC, R1200GS Adv ALC, R1200RT LC, S1000R, C-evolution etc.). This product is also backward compatible and supports ALL the previous models of BMW motorcycles that have the round 10pin diagnostic connector!

GS-911wifi is compatible with the GS-911 Windows PC Software. It can also be used with a device that has a compatible web browser and WiFi (typically Android, iPads, iPhones, Windows Phone 7 & 8 etc.) to deliver Emergency Functionality (ECU information, reading & clearing of Fault Codes, Engine real-time (live) data) and cloud-based Service Functionality...

EMERGENCY functionality is embedded in the GS-911wifi unit. It lets the user view ECU information, Read & Clear Fault codes on ALL control units, and view Real-time Live sensor data for ALL engine control units. Any device with a Browser and Wifi are supported

SERVICE functionality includes the ability to reset Service Reminders, do Output Function Tests, Calibrations, ABS Bleed Tests, Clear & Relearn Adaptations and much mode. Available with the Windows PC App.

CLOUD functionality enables a mobile device (or laptop) with an html 5 compliant browser that is connected to the HEX CLOUD server through the internet, to have access to the Service functionality that was previously only available in the Windows PC application.

The GS 911 will do very much more than resetting fault codes. I am looking into getting a GS911 but would be going for the Enthusiast Bluetooth version.

Well bit he bullet ,ordered a gs911 wifi yesterday at 11am from ilexa and arrived here today at lunch time

Well so far I have been messing about with the GS- 911, bumf on the web site now shows an adaptor to allow the tool to be used with an OBD2 port on the 2017 on models so that is it future proofed.

What I would say so far is that it isn't as simple to use as the Ross tech VCDS (VAG) software tools I have and also the Hexcode website does not have the comprehensive back up and information as Ross Tech.

That said it is interesting to find out just how many firmware updates the Suspension ECU that my bike has had over the past 2 1/2 years to sort out the ESA, similarly with the engine ECU ie 5 firmware updates .

Have a couple of days free next week so we will see exactly what i can make it do
