Hi,
I've got a notion of removing the catalytic converter from the stock down pipes on my 2008 GSA 1200. I've looked at the BMW microfiche with the hope of getting a transparent view of the CAT. No joy here ! Has anyone on the forum done this modification on the 2008 model ? I'm going to cut the pipe at the rear weld & try & remove the Cat using a Dremel. If this fails ! I will cut the front weld & knock the Cat out ! Any pictures or technical drawings appreciated. Also which after market end can is best for the GS ??

Thanks in advance.

I had it done by a pipe welder, just cut at the rear end of the cat removed all those heavy metals and rewelded, mod virtually invisible all for £40 .No hassle with aftermarket front pipes fouling engine bars or hitting lambda probes etc just requires a bit of running around.:D

Cheers BlueBird. Exactly what I thought ! A few hours work ! Dead easy .

Thanks mate.

Done it...

There's a strap mounting on the cat area under the sump. Cut it in half through the part where the strap goes. Doing it that way means you have less depth of cat to dig through in each direction. Weld it up and re-install.

Strap then hides the weld line:D

No flat spots, spins up quicker, less hunting round midrange, no change in fuel consumption, Less weight (only a bit). Hey, whats not to like?

£10 cost to friendly exhaust shop owner includes him cutting it through, me going away for a happy half hour with a drill then a hammer and cold chisel, return to the guy who welds it up. Easy job!

Roger.
